Postby tech1 » Thu Jul 15, 2010 8:52 pm

Hello I am looking for a OEM CB radio for my 86 Goldwing Aspencade SE-i.
It has an OEM Panasonic radio with intercom.
Thanks Joe

I'm likely going to be parting out my '84 Aspy. It has a good working CB on it that I will be offering at that te ime, so if you're still looking at that time you may be interested in it. I will probably have it available in a few weeks.

Will it work on my SE-i ? Because None of the SE-i have CBs that I know of and I was concerned if it will work on my bike and how much?
Thanks Joe

I think all of the 1200's used the same CB setup. It didn't come stock on any of them. I'll have to think on the price but I need to decide if I'm parting the bike first.

If you are still looking for a cb, I have one that I bought off ebay when I was a little more gullible, appearance is not great, and I do not have the wiring harness, I do have the handlebar switch that I bought separately, and I can tell you from experience that your best bet is to buy a complete unit, I was able to finally find one on ebay complete with all of the parts, which includes a new power supply to replace the one that you have on your bike as part of the as well as a splitter that has to be installed. It was an absolute bear to install and figure out the wiring hookups, the sei has parts already on it that sort of conflict with the wiring on the cb, specifically the auto volume, and tone control, if your sei has the antennae with the load coil on it, you do not have to have a separate antennae, there is a splitter that accomodates the am/fm as well as the cb. After all is said, I did get one and installed it, and works great, on my 85 ltd, which is essentially the same as the sei.

If you are still looking, let me know, I will try to help.

OK Thanks. Yes it does have the load coil antenna. I have no idea what all is required to make it work. Do you know if 86 SE-i has the wiring harness already needed and what all do you have? How much are you needing for it?
Thanks Joe

The SEI should have all the wiring harness in place, if you have the Volume and Tone control in the center of the false tank with all of the rest of the trip computer then all of the other primary wiring should be there. Some where in the docs on this site, there is an instruction and wiring manual, but even then it is difficult to follow, in addition to the CB itself, there are two components that you need that are not on the bike, a new power amplifier, and a splitter that actually mates the intercom, cb and the am/fm. As I said earlier, I bought this off of ebay, thinking that it would have all I needed included, not so, nothing but the unit itself. If you can find the rest of the parts needed, I will be glad to let you try the radio, see if it works, and you can live with it, 75.00 plus shipping for what I have, only after you check to see if it works. As I said earlier I finally found a complete unit, with all of the parts, and a complete wiring harness, which I didn't need, because it was already on the bike. I think I paid around 225.00 for the complete working unit.

I will try and find the docs, so that you can know exactly what's on the bike and wha't not. If we get that far, I can send you a couple of pictures of the radio, according to the guy that sold it, it was a working radio, I am very leery now of any cb items on ebay, because they like to just sell the unit, with the stuff that makes it work separately.

Honda Goldwing GL1200 Hondaline CB System Installation Manual

This manual is listed in the docs, and I pulled it up. The auto volume control that it references is already on your bike, but it has to be intergrated to the terminal component shown in the manual, and the one on the CB is not hooked up

If I were you and jluvs2dive doesn't want your grandchildren for his cb when he parts his bike out, that's the way to go, get the whole thing at one pop. His will work on your bike, just a little more interesting to hook up, and again the auto volume stuff is what threw me a curve, as the LTD and the SEI already have them in place.
