Hypothetical question regarding selling items on a forum such as this.
Sequence of events and assumptions:
* Sold item through the board. Delivered item and received payment in a timely manner.
* 6 months following delivery, received an message from the buyer that they had the part installed and report that it wasn't fully operational. They demand a full refund.

What is "reasonable" in a case like this? Is the buyer due a full refund?
Is there an implied warranty on a used item 6 months after the transaction is completed?

A couple of questions.
1. Was the item working when you sold it?
2. Is the item something that could be screwed up by the purchaser, either when installing or through use?
3. Did they install right after purchase and now it isn't working or they waited 6 months to install?

I'm assuming that the item was working when you sold it, so here is my view.
My opinion is that anything sold is up to the buyer to verify either before buying or as soon as it's received
A "tail-light warranty" comes to mind (warrantied as long as you can see the tail-lights in the distance).
I would find out the particulars from the buyer (#2 & 3) and explain that it has become their problem due to the above.

Of course your view may be different.
If the item sold was inexpensive, you could just refund to get them out of the way.
If not, maybe come to an agreement for a partial refund.
Either way, I would ask for the item back.

Buying used always carries the "Caveat Emptor" (Let the Buyer Beware) heading along with the price. Six months after purchase, one must really trust the word of the buyer that the part was not installed immediately, used for six months and then quit functioning fully, and the story becomes, oh - no - I never used it before this. If it worked, and you know it worked, when you sold it, your responsibility is done. If it was iffy when you sold it, then you cheated the buyer. It goes both ways.
It ain't about the destination - it's all about the journey
