1988 Right side battery cover martini beige

Postby texwing » Sun May 22, 2016 3:41 pm

Perhaps not completely a new topic, but most posts where I am finding some parts are 2-3 yrs. old, or do not have R side cover.
Wanted: Right side battery cover for 1988 GL1500, martini beige w/emblems would be perfect in a perfect world! Mine blew off just yesterday, went back stomping through the weeds on the side of the freeway w/no luck :( Any leads would be greatly appreciated.
I feel half dressed on the bike now, exposed on one side, embarrassing to the dignity of our great WINGS!!
Also, I understand that about 1995-6 the shape of that cover changed a bit, even though it stills fits the older models back to 88, is this correct? Thank you one and all.

One more thing, I am finding the chrome covers with no emblems, but they are called the "narrow" 1995-2000 style (Cyclemax), but will fit the older (all) 1500s. My question is how do these look on the older models, can you tell the difference, unless you put em side by side? I am one of those who really likes the original look.
Still hesitant to order that, but I am about decided to go the chrome route on both sides, unless a martini beige shows up somewhere.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading. :geek:

The more a bikes small piece is lost the higher the ransom.

I'm sure you know chrome covers can be painted.
Auto spray paint is cost effective but not exact tho it will get you by until you find OEM's.

Thank you for the ideas...you are certainly right on about the ransom, love the Wing, but I never knew how expensive plastic could be until I owned a Goldwing! Lesson learned here - cheaper to replace those rubber grommets that HOLD the plastic on!!!
Love your take on "long and winding road." and "He ain't heavy..." 8-)

Use lid keepers on all the parts that can come off.

"It ain't heavy, it's a GoldWing"... thanks. Radio was off, one of the first tunes that came to mind when I first took a long ride was The Hollys, 'He ain't heavy'. Wasn't until a few years ago when I got the song writing itch that parody come to mind. BUT I did remember that first long ride feeling. ;)
The Wing is an inanimate object, can one really love it? .....NO exhaust port jokes.

There are Rudy's Keepers or buy some no less than 50 pound fishing leaders. 12 inch minimum but 16" is better. Stainless Steel and coated, no scuffs.
Copiously 2-part epoxy one end, non-clip, to the part the other wrap around something and clip. I tried 40 LB leaders, didn't hold up well. 100 LB leaders are expensive. 1/16" bare cable is overkill and really hard to mount.... I tried.
PM me if your going to use epoxy, I have a couple important hints. Can't post here, someone new is causing problems.
