1985 Honda Goldwing LE with sidecar for sale

Postby RYucotsa » Wed Aug 31, 2016 12:01 pm

Though it pains me to do so, I'm letting go of my Goldwing, there's some type of electrical problem and it's over my head.

If you know about the electronics on the LE, have at it, if not, it's got great parts and a perfectly serviceable sidecar.

It acts like it wants to start, but the battery always dies out, and I'm done fighting it.

Not expecting a whole lot.

you should put at least a ball park idea of what you would like to get for it.
what is not a lot to some is to others and vise versa
looks like it's in pretty good shape
what happened when it stopped running or wouldn't start last

A ball park of 1000$ would be nice.

It won't start, I think because the battery gets drained to quickly, I can push start it for a little while, but it then dies in about 30 minutes on the road.

has the stator ever been changed? have you done the "3 wire solder fix" to it? pull the plug apart on the stator where it connects just forward of the battery and see if its burned or corroded. sounds like a charging problem or the alternator, or the regulator/rectifier or the stator is going bad, but thats where i would check before i gave my bike away.

sounds like a charging issue to me as well. might be worth rethinking selling it.there are plenty of people that could help you get it fixed
if not someone should get a nice rig for a good price

yes, don't be too eager to get rid of your bike just yet. have it diagnosed first, THEN make up your mind what you want to do with it. like aj1500 says, there are plenty of people here that can help walk you thru what needs to be fixed along with many "how-to" articles on repairs. it would be a shame if all it needed was a reg/rec for 75-100 bucks to fix it, or an alternator or a stator,(which would be a lot more for labor) unless you wanted to tackle fixing it yourself and if you did the work yourself, when its done and back up and running you'll be proud knowing you did it and it was done correctly because you took your time with it and you can have many more happy miles with it.
