WTB Shocks

Postby fysty-1 » Mon Jan 03, 2011 9:57 pm

I am looking to buy a good pair of used shocks for my 85 1200 I. They can be stock or Progressive with or without air. I do need them to be capible of 150#'s each as I am nearly 3 bills myself (and losing). I am on a fixed budget so price is important. Also seller must be registered with Pay Pal. My postal code is V3S-9R9 and live in SW BC Canada. I am also looking for a broken shift lever for same bike. This is for a direct T/H shifter project (direct link). Thanks all. Angela (aka fysty-1)

That's "broken" and all I need is the part that attaches to the engine.
As far as Andy(Straightwings) is concerned, he is only about 20 min from me but tends to be a bit steep on price. I know how this sounds but I am hopeing to get a set of stock shocks that are low milage after a swap over to Progressives fot next to nothing. I just can not affor the prices that I see on the web pages of the distributors or on Ebay. I have given a number of parts away to the various forum members and would mind a little pay back although that was not in my mind @ the time of the good deed that was done. My mom taught me "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you!".

Sorry Fysty1, I thought it might have been a brand of shock that, being new to riding, I was not familiar with. Hope you find what you need. I had the fork seals etc. replaced this past summer. This past April I bought an '86 Aspy off of E-Bay and absolutely LOVE riding. BUT, I guess I did not realize how expensive it can be. Parts cost a lot, but I am absolutely getting killed by the labor charges. I am slightly below "fair" when it comes to mechanics, but I am certainly going to give it a shot at doing some of my own basic maintainance/repairs. I have 2 basic but major jobs in mind: 1.) clean the carbs, and 2.) change timing belts. I KNOW this forum will be of great help when I get to that point. A lot of knowledgeable people here. Oops, rambling again. Sorry. :D

fysty 1 Just what part of heel/toe shifter do you need the bolt that it pivots on or the arm that has the forked end and rubber pads on it. if you could post picture of it I may have what you need. Hal

HAL,
If fysty1 doesn't need the bolt I could sure use it. I have the same heel/toe shifter and it is very "wobbly" from side to sid rather than front to back. I'm sure it is the bolt and spacers used. So, if fysty1 doesn't want it or can't use it let me know . I DO need it. Thanks to both of you.

Hal, I don't need none of the H/T shifter. I am building my own that is similar to that on the Hondsa Ace or on mostH-D's. I have the shifter already& the turnbuckles all I need is a Stock shift lever that I can cut the shaft off & use just the part that attaches to the transmission. So give what you have to maestro. :D

It might be a reach but I was over at a place called The Cyle Den in Columbia , Pa last week. They have a warehouse full of parts mainly Harley but the shocks for them and Goldwings ae made by the same manufacture, Showa. I saw some on the shelf that were eye to eye mounts with air nipples. Might want to send them and email. Thier prices seemd pretty reasonable so it might be your answer.
Might just send them the length you need.

Just an update. The shocks came last year and although I can't say who I got them from, they came fully reconned stock shocks To which I added my lifting blocks to allow more clearance under the Voyager but sadly do to what has happened this past 15 months they are still sitting here in my place out of the elements. I have trimmed the broken shifter down but have been unabel to get @ ityet but as a lot of other projects I am hoping that this spring will bring the upgrading of Baby Blue to get her back to her original splendid self. While I have her tore down I hope that I will be able to rechrome some of her shiny stuff. I guess the biggest job will be fitting all the LTD saddle box trim to the Interstate boxes. This mean cutting out for the side lights. But thanks to other members I have the measurements & have made up a template. I am also going to make up templates for the accent color panels once I can get to a photocopier with a % enlargining ability. Should have done it when I was working as we had one in the office. I have got a copy of the decals from the ohio site and I took a pencil tracing fr stock.om an engine cover to give me the fully size pattern. From this I will enlarge the other copies until I have a % that is full size then I will be able to set the copier and print off the full size patterns. When I have this done I will be posting these on the various forums for those 1200 owners that want to repaint thier babies because with these patterns all you have to do is take them to a sign maker & have vinyl decals made in the color of thier choice. In my case this will be Black carbon fiber.  :D :D :D :D :D :D

Sounds like you have been busy and will be for awhile, we all need projects to keep us out of trouble. This year will leave all those pesky problems you have been experiencing behind. If there is anything else I can help with just give a shout.
