I suspect it would. The GL1800 has similar adjusters on the cable coming from its actuator.

Wel, i tried to do it the official way today as i replaced the sub and cruise filter, but no matter how i searched for the alignment marks
all i could see were tubes and hoses.......... I think i wil do it the way described here as soon i got the bike running again.
Seems like a whole lot easier..... :roll:

I already tried it the official way once before, and still had the lag. This method worked 100% for me.

That's exactly what mine did, until this adjustment fixed it.

I had my bike apart this weekend to fix the reverse, so seeing as I had the bodywork off anyway, I did this procedure - using dingdong's method. I cranked the adjustment out until the idle just barely started to climb, then backed it off just about 3/4 turn and locked it with the jam nut. It works! The lag is gone.

I also did this for my 90K service.... and WOW! :o What a difference... I backed mine out about one turn and it's perfect.

As a followup to my OP, I had to readjust the cable the day after. I didn't get to do any riding the day I did the adjustment except for the test ride. The day after, I put a good 30 miles on it and noticed my idle was up to around 950 rpm after coming up to temp. I tried to turn it down some but couldn't because the cruise was holding it up. I had to back off the adjuster a hair to be able to idle it back down to normal. I rode 200 miles this morning between 45-75 mph and it worked perfectly so I'm attributing this to the bike not being completely up to operating temps the day before.
This I think is the reason that the factory cable adjustment is so loose, engineers and lawyers are a little paranoid about the throttle coming to idle with absolutely no questions. If you notice during operation the cruise is very gentle with its throttle corrections so as to not jerk us around trying to hold a set speed. That translates to a rather slow engagement as the vacuum diaphragm gently takes up the slack in the cruise cable. If you adjust the cable so that there is just a touch of slack it will engage decently and not have your butt biting holes in the seat cover as you come to a stop.

Yes it will and is the accepted method of doing it since the book method of looking through a tiny hole and aligning marks doesn't work anyway. You do have to remove the top shelter to get to it on an 1800 though so do it when you are due an air filter or have some other project to do under there.
