i would think people might be interested. my dad was in a wing club. it's always cool to see big groups of these bikes together. it would also be a good way to exchange ideas and opinions in person maybe. people always love to talk about how much bigger there's is than the next guys lol. i would definately buy you lunch. you are a life saver man. everything is worth trying once. maybe i will start a thread and ask some opinions. i'm worried after replacing 3 speedo drives on my dad's wing he's talking about getting a harley which i know absolutely nothing about working on. and i never dreamed i would hear him say. he has been a honda man since he started riding. his first bike was a 67 305 scrambler. i picked up a 69 cl450 thinking we could build it together but its been sitting for 2 years now. it runs but needs the starter clutch rebuilt only gave 200 bucks for it
. i love suzuki's kawasaki's, and honda's. i just bought my first yamaha last weekend mx80. about to start on it after i get the 1988 suz ds80 i bought with it going, needs a primary coil and carb. gave 140 for the two bikes no spark no carbs otherwise really good condition. i posted the yamaha on pitracer forum classified under vintage if u wanna c my 70 dollar investment. im trying to start a business of fixing up these old abandoned bikes and selling them. rough going though with the price and availability of parts. thanks again friend, sure i will need your services again before the seasons over lol.

survey, wingdocs member group rides yea or nay?
wondering what you guys think about about a section for organizing group rides in states or regions so all the wonderful members can get together a few times a year and share ideas, experiences and whatever deemed appropriate. my local dealership does this and its nice to see all the different ideas people have for their motorcycles. thanks for the input.

Re: survey, wingdocs member group rides yea or nay?
i don't know why but all i could think of is the top gear trip through vietnam. i think with two kayaks and a motocross mud paddle wheel the right currents and cooperative weather you might make it, man that's a nice bike might not like the salt water too much, or just get your mates to spread the word about a great group of helpful kind folks. Have your friends and their friends join and organize a ride with the uk members over there. That was kind of my goal, i think. Create a section on the site so people in different regions could organize rides with folks of similar interests. just trying to help the site grow maybe. thanks. i love this site!!!

Lots of people like to ride my area of the country. I can offer some support when it comes to camping or lodging locating. I also know my way around fairly well. Sometimes I can get away for a long ride but it usually takes some notice.
I'm not big on riding in large groups though. I do like the GWRRA way of group riding and I'm a Road Captain.

I NEVER saw so many Goldwings in my life!!! There is interest you just gotta find it and inform it. Join me the weekend after labor Day in New Hampton IA, I'll be the one cussing his 85 LE because it died on the side of the road due to vaporlock (ish) issues

iowa... i want to go to the davenport vintage swap meet and vintage flat track races. end of sept. i think. i went to waseon ohio meet and races it was amazing. there were some really high end bikes. a mint flying merckel, a few ariel square fours, a 1908 indian for 45,000 bucks, an indian four, just all kinds of amazingly rare bikes. there was a 70's goldwing carcass there for like 800 bucks. missing heads tank and a few other essential pieces. all the chrome still looked brand new and the fenders were in really good shape. wish i'da had room for it. the races were another amazing spectacle. i have never seen anything so exhilarating in my life and i went to college lol! they had everything from board track racers 1912-1929 class amazing. 80cc,185cc, 360 brakeless, suicide shift indians, speedway, and the big show was 1000cc v twins mostly harley and indians. pre 70 was the rule i believe. the surface looked like pea gravel to me. there's an onboard video of the board track on youtube.

We've had so much rain this year an Atlantic crossing might have been the drier option.

It's not the water that worries me, it is the lack of fuel stops! I guess there could be a lot of ups and downs on a trip like that, but only if you miss the storms that seem to be brewing up at this time of the year.

Should the next survey ask for preferences? Day ride, Overniter, or Meet, etc. And maybe cover a Tri-state size area to organize a group and meet up at a central location.

I think it's definitely something I'll set up - and I have something in mind, I just need to find the time to do it. It's added to my project list!
The menu unfortunately is at maximum now, as I have to consider people with smaller screens. Adding more will cause it to wrap on their screens unacceptably.

Re: survey, wingdocs member group rides yea or nay?
I am willing to organise a tour of interesting places in Australia. We could arrange to have your GWs packed in containers, and shipped over and then back. The softies could fly over, but the exit point would have to be Los Angeles. It would not have to be a marathon, with long hours of riding, but more of a leisurely look and see and ride. We have to allow for the SO, who may not want to see a race circuit in the Blue Mountains, or enjoy the twisties going up and down the eastern escarpment, or the War Memorial in Canberra, and might like to sneak away and do some shopping, looking at an art museum, taking photographs
There is no problem about the temporary importation of motor vehicles, as long as they are registered in their home country/state, and they do leave the country. This would not be a cheap vacation, it would be a "one in a million" type of tour, on a beer budget, though. Let me know if you are interested. I was thinking of November 2013 as a possibility, or March-April 2014 - these are the kindest times of the year. Accommodation would be at Caravan Parks (aka trailer parks), and we would book cabins with everything, just bring local food for yourselves.
This would be the trip of a lifetime!

Re: Member Rides
I was at that race last year. I was sitting in the grandstands when one of the first heats came around the fouth turn, and one in front slowed a bit and the guy coming from the rear ran the bike right up his back and into the air. The bike flew over him and hit on the other side. It did a few tumbles then came apart. The engine was out and flying directly at me. It hit one of the announcment speakers and fell. It was a strange thing watching that engine barreling at us. But all in all it was a blast, walking through all the swap meet items, and there was a BUNCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!lovemyzx9r wrote:iowa... i want to go to the davenport vintage swap meet and vintage flat track races. end of sept. i think. i went to waseon ohio meet and races it was amazing. there were some really high end bikes. a mint flying merckel, a few ariel square fours, a 1908 indian for 45,000 bucks, an indian four, just all kinds of amazingly rare bikes. there was a 70's goldwing carcass there for like 800 bucks. missing heads tank and a few other essential pieces. all the chrome still looked brand new and the fenders were in really good shape. wish i'da had room for it. the races were another amazing spectacle. i have never seen anything so exhilarating in my life and i went to college lol! they had everything from board track racers 1912-1929 class amazing. 80cc,185cc, 360 brakeless, suicide shift indians, speedway, and the big show was 1000cc v twins mostly harley and indians. pre 70 was the rule i believe. the surface looked like pea gravel to me. there's an onboard video of the board track on youtube.
