Macgyver Belly Pan
Hi All, I finally bought a Macgyver Belly Pan. I hope this will help others with install. First I've read that others have had the front section Fall Off (Of course while on a Trip). So I did away with the screws it came with and used Cap Screws I also drilled and safety wired them. The screws thread into Steel spring clips which will rust over time, so I coated the threads with Never Seez. Next the hole for the hoses the hang through comes razor sharp, so I used a rubber grommet to protect the hoses. Ok on to the install, I installed the Left side as per instructions. I use a small scissor jack and a piece of wood to assist in pushing the pan up, repeated the same thing on the Right side. I can't stress enough in the importance of the small jack, without that it would be next to impossible to get it to engage safely under the cowling. In the end after looking real good with bright light and mirror, it's on, but not all the way do to the pan ends up against the Exhaust and will not go on further. Kind of makes one nervous that this could come off. Also it came with 4 scratches as other have posted, looks to me its from some kind of tool they use to hold it as the scratches were uniform. All and all it does protect the enging, oil filter, and coolest tank. But for the money they charge, it could be manufactured a lot better and safer.

Re: Macgyver Belly Pan
Sorry I took it for granted that the readers knew. It a sheet of metal that bolts to the bottom of the engine section of a gold wing that hopefully protects the engine, oil filter, and mostly the coolant reserve tank.
Hope this helps.

It does and I figured that was the idea. Do you have a picture of installed?

Using the diamond plate, that would look pretty cool. I would like to see, too.

Personally, I see no reason to change what I already have installed.

Re: Macgyver Belly Pan
An alternative to the MacGyver Pan is the Tulsa Belly Pan. It is made of aluminum and comes in two pieces. I have had the same one on my GL1800 for 120,000 miles with no problems. Installation was easy--loosen a couple bolts, slide the back section in place, retighten the bolts, install the front section which is held in place with two screw type fasteners. Easy on, easy off for oil changes.

Well that was a through review. And congrats on your safety wire job. looks like you have been around some aviation applications. I installed a belly pan from Cyclemax . I ran over a wrench a few years ago on my 2012 and punctured my filter with two holes.

I installed the pan after the incident. Would probably never happen again but oh well. I also carry a spare filter.

I have been to the McGuyver shop and watched him make one. His methods & tools are a little crude IMO but it works.
