Hesitation in Throttle 1986 SEi

Postby Digitalsaw » Fri Oct 01, 2010 9:36 am

Hey guys,
I have a 1986 Goldwing SEi which is the electronic fuel injection. I am having some issues with what I've called a 'dead spot' in the throttle. It is is driving me crazy as it makes taking off from lights difficult. What occurs is as I begin letting the clutch out and twisting the throttle and the clutch begins to engage and the engine begins to labor and then suddenly begins to balk, as if the load on the engine causes it to starve out for fuel. I have to twist the throttle quite a bit to then keep it running which results in a higher rev and then, when the clutch engages I'm taking off too quickly which is REALLY a problem when turning left or right from a light. What fun.
Anyhow, just wondering if anyone has had the fuel injected 86' or 87' and has any ideas.
Thanks wingers.
Scott

Before i'd blame it on the TPS check for vaccume leaks and make sure you have the correct fuel pressure if you haven't change the fuel filter, and check the air filter. The reason I say that is mine was doing the samething after I reinstalled the engine after a stator replacment. Turns out that I had forgot to reconnect a couple vac lines. I ended up having to pull it out ( engine ) again anyway.

But when I reinstalled it again with everything connected it is as smooth as silk. If you have checked all above items then you might want to check for a TPS malfunction

Mine turned out to be the TPS. It developed a bad spot just about the "55mph" area of the sensor. Fortunately I got some good info on how to convert a sensor from a Honda Civic and thats what I run at present.
