suspension Q's

Post by fred1diver » Mon Mar 26, 2018 6:10 pm

hey everyone, I'm getting the bike out tomorrow and I have some work to do on her, the rear suspension's boots are damaged, how important are those boots?
the rear suspension seems to loose air but the gauge tells me they are full, but when I drive and hit a bump it bottoms out.
when I try to deflate the suspension I blow a fuse, not sure what is the problem there?
any idea where I can get some desiccant for the air dryer?

The boots are there to keep dirt from getting on the pistons and wearing your seals. You can take them off, but you'll end up having to replace or rebuild your shocks sooner than you would if you replaced the boots.

You don't need to replace your dessicant - read this: How to renew your air compressor dessicant

Not positive but it sounds like a short in the 'decrease' solenoid or its wiring/switch. You didn't state if this occurs when you try front or rear suspension decrease, or does it not matter which one?

To replace the shock boots on the cheap, Monroe Shock mate kit SA1997, you have to cut them off some.
From what you describe I suspect the charging system failed and the battery went dead.

Just ordered the shock mate kit, should get it by Monday, we’re going to be snowed in by tomorrow and Sunday so I wont be able to work on the bike until the end of next week, going to be trying to find the leak in the rear suspension system and going to try to fix the other issues with the air down system
