Coolant leak from weep hole

Post by Gabgab753 » Sat Apr 07, 2018 3:09 pm

This winter i put a brand new water pump and o-rimg/gasket. But now i see a smal drop on the case coming from the weep hole. The bike didnt do 1km only run on idle and he leak. Do the cold can cause that or i need to change my oring again? Does the colant can be in cause. I dont think its a silicate and etc free...

There's a good chance that you pinched the o-ring...I don't think the type of coolant would have an effect after such a short time.

I had this happen when I changed the water pump on my 1100. It is REALLY easy to roll one of the O-rings when you insert the pump, and if you do, this is the result. I had to take mine apart again, pull the water pump and re-insert it.

The second time, when I inserted it, I coated the O-rings with a water-based "personal lubricant" that is super slippery and works really well to slide O-rings into place like this. It doesn't damage the O-ring or aluminum, and it only takes a drop or two to lubricate the whole O-ring (I also wiped some on the inside of the cavity accepting the pump as well). It slid right in, no rolling of the O-ring, and sealed up perfectly.

This is the lubricant I used, I'm sure others would work well too:

Yea that stuff definitely helps with "O-ring" problems too!
