Question about rear wheel bearings
Hello,I am confused about this, replacing the rear wheel bearing set and the new bearing for the right side seems to be thinner than the original,I had already installed the new bearings in the wheel and noticed that when I was tightening the axle nut it was leaving too much play on the internal spacer that goes inside the final drive,I know I have all the spacers in place,so I am thinking that the new bearing kit is not correct, will check with shop I buy my parts from but thought maybe some you guys might have some thoughts, pictures are here, the bearing on the right is the oem.

Re: Question about rear wheel bearings
Yeah,I thought that was going to be the case even tho the bike shop I got the bearing kit from says they are the ones for my Goldwing, the bearing for the left side of the rear wheel was right, the one on th right goes in too far.

Re: Question about rear wheel bearings
Yea,I found an exact bearing that fit perfectly, everything is back in place although the rear wheel is going to have to be ridden so it will seat in,just a little stiff from the new bearings, the company I found thanks to the young lady from Cycle Service is called Alabama Bearing in Dothan Alabama, they say they can get any of the bearings In may need.

Re: Question about rear wheel bearings
I meant to ask this yesterday,is the rear wheel supposed to be a bit stiff when you put all new bearings,it will spin freely until I torque the axle nut to 69 foot pounds as per the manual.

Re: Question about rear wheel bearings
I am no expert but it sounds like a spacer is not in the correct place.
Different bike but on my '75 550F a shop put the rear tire back on without the internal spacers around the axle.
Take care,
-Mark

Well can everyone say Doh!!! like Homer Simpson,I have just got through rechecking everything and wouldn't you know I did leave the spacer that goes in the final drive out,now it is just like it should be,I don't know how I managed not to put the stupid thing in but at least I found my problem.

Re: Question about rear wheel bearings
Yeah, this was a case of putting the cart before the horse,I remember now that I took the spacer out to better clean the final drive splines and thought I put it back.
