Oil filter confusion

Post by frodeem » Fri Apr 13, 2018 9:15 pm

I was changing the oil filter today and the one I ordered doesn't look anything like the one I got out of the bike.

This is the one from the bike - it has a hole on both sides.

And this is the one I ordered - hole on one side only.

Have you seen anything like this? Is this the right part?

Your 1100, unless it has a screw on filter adapter is a cartridge filter, like the first one. The second one is a screw on filter, for what we don't know.

The 1500's use a screw on like that second one and lots of small cars. I think Honda still sells the correct filter...cartridge type. Or Randakks sells an adapter so you can use screw-ons with the 1000's or 1100's..many like the convenience
HAD LOTS OF GOLDWING 75-83
NOW INTO 1500'S..RIDING A 1998 SE

FAIR WINDS,

Fram CH6009 available at some parts stores is what you need. The only Fram I will use is their cartridge type.

The last Fram filter I pulled out had separated, media from the metal ends. I now buy Honda filters and will never, ever, not in a million, trillion years use a Fram filter for anything. Not even a paperweight. The money I may have saved is negated many times over by the cost of a rebuilt engine.

Cosmo

P.S. By the way, the proper filter has a rubber grommet/gasket fit onto the hole on both sides.

I have been riding GL1100's since 1981 and have always used the Fram CH6009 filter with out any issues. So I may have not used them for a million, trillion years but I'd say 37 years is a pretty long time :)
