Can beads put a tire out of balance

Post by Gbera » Mon Apr 16, 2018 2:29 pm

Just bought new tires e4's for my 1500, was wondering if any one knows if adding beads to a already in balance tire can throw it out of balance?

No.The beads will space out as needed...It's not even necessary to keep the weights that we're attached.I tossed mine in the garbage can.
Didja know that your tires should be rebalanced often over it's lifespan?Just like your car..it's not a once and done thing.
That's the advantage of beads. They rebalance the tire continuously.

the only way the beads can mess up the balancing is if you have slime or other liquid inside the tyre that causes the beads to stick together, then the balancing can go out, but you are NOT suppose to use beads with any liquid sealant inside the tyre. Just make sure you don't have a sealant inside the tyre and then add the recommended amount of beads and as stated enjoy a constantly re-balanced tyre..

as long as there is nothing liquid or gooey in the tire, beads are a permanent fix for balance.

easily double the life of a tire... ( my words, works for me )

I always figured the beads were "snake oil"...until I tried them. I'm a convert, now - I'll never have ugly lead weights on my wheels again, and I'm thrilled with how smooth & quiet my tires run now.

I've been using beads for years and love the smoothness and tire wear. 2oz in the front and 3 oz in the rear.
It's not what you buy, it's what you build.

I used a similar bead balancing ring on the front steer tires on my semi-tractor. They balanced the big tires perfectly and greatly increased the life of my front tires. This was about 15 years ago when a pair of steer tires for my truck cost over $700; the bead rings were about $50 a pair and get moved to the next set of tire. Worked like a charm. Absolutely, beads are the way to go.
All they were was a plate sized metal ring, with beads inside, which mounted between the brake drum and the wheel. The entire wheel/tire assembly was thus balanced. Same principle as beads in the tire.

Same exact principle as is used on the Centramatic wheel balancers for the GL1800:

Reality is not one MC tire manufacturer recommends beads and their use will in fact void the tire warranty. They serve their purpose in OTR trucks. :D

that is stretching things a bunch, not one of them says to NOT use beads either.

Beads and the Laws of Physics will be around until long after we are all gone, and then some.

I’m curious to see all the tire warranties that state the use of balancing beads void the warranty. I have just never heard or read that. Not trying to be argumentative, it’s just that I’ve never seen that statement on a tire warranty and so I’m curious. If beads can be used in car and truck tires without voiding the warranty, why is it that beads in a cycle tire void the warranty?

Avon has no such limitation on its warranty: http://www.avonmoto.com/warranty/standard-warranty/

Dunlop however has a huge list of things that void its warranty - including putting wet or dry balancing media (anything except air) into the tire, pulling a trailer, new (or repaired) tires not being "run in", riding outside the US or Canada, improper inflation, overloading, spinning a tire (as in mud, snow, sand, on ice or during on-the-motorcycle balancing) - any one of these things voids your warranty with Dunlop tires. Basically, if you buy a Dunlop tire, assume the warranty is void, because it's likely that something in there will cover how you ride. https://www.dunlopmotorcycletires.com/a ... anty-info/

Metzeler is even more restrictive than Dunlop - the list of things that void your warranty (including the use of liquid or dry internal balancing media) are about twice as long as the warranty itself. Even repairing a Metzeler tire voids its warranty. http://www.metzeler.com/site/us/tech-an ... ranty.html

Michelin also voids your warranty for liquid or dry balancers: https://media.michelinman.com/content/d ... 3.2014.pdf

Thank you very much. So, as they read, those tire warranty’s are worthless. It appears that if you mount the tire on your motorcycle, balance it and then ride it more than 10’, the warranty is void. In other words, there is no warranty. So then, who cares if one uses beads to balance their tires? It’s a non-issue.

Precisely

I have never, ever, worried about warranties, I assume the minute the bike/car is out the door, the warranty has expired.

The only exception that I know of, is Discount Tires, they will sell you a Road Hazard Warranty for the life of the tread until it is down to the wear bars. I just bought a set of RV tires for my Toy Hauler, and purchased their warranty.

they are the only retailer who will warranty RV trailer tires.
Too bad they don't sell m/c tires.

Don't want to start an argument, but . . . . . ceramic beads or metallic?
