My baby won't crank.
I know she is oldbut I have a 1983 interstate. Love her but won't crank. Replaced the solenoid, harness under the seat battery in new. Have to push her off to crank. When you turn the key it just clicks. Belie it or not she was a one owner before me and only has 41000 miles on her. Any suggestions. Not gonna trade I'm 62 don't wanna go in that much debt again.

Is the click you are hearing the solenoid? Do you have any means of doing some electrical tests?

Pretty likely the problem is the starter. If you have a volt meter or a test light put the ground probe or clip on the battery negative, positive probe to the stud on the starter where the cable connects and push the button (key on). If your light lights or the meter shows battery voltage the starter is bad.

Thanks will check that tomorrow. It's hard around here to get someone to work on an old bike. I put a conversion kit on it this year cause of a bad knee and hip but not ready to give it up yet.
She is still pretty shiny black. Had a guy to offer me$2500 and I wouldn't take it.

Probably should post on Tech Talk board.
Besides the dreaded three yellow wires, the GL1200 is known for starter drag. Not the same bike I know but I've had a couple 1200 bikes that really did not like to turn over and were cured by disassembling and cleaning the starter. No need for a complete rebuild just get the dirt, grit, dust and bad stuff out and a little white lube on the bearings.

Something easy first. Take all four plugs out and crank it over and see if gas comes flying out of the cylinders. Make sure you don't have a hydro-lock. Do this where you don't care where gas flies because if it is there it will go everywhere.

But if it was not getting gas then it wouldn't keep running after you push it off would it?
