Front brakes build pressure but won’t release

Post by anthony_riester » Sat May 05, 2018 11:49 pm

Hey all having trouble with my front brakes, they pump up after having the calipers off and manually pushing the pistons back in but once pumped up will not release. Tried cracking the bleeders and fluid does come out but the brakes stay tight on the rotors, I did find some washers between the front forks and the calipers should those be there? Anyway from reading up on what has been said before collapsed brake lines or the small hole in the master cylinder? Should I go after any of those or am I missing something? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

If you open the bleeders and they don't release the only possibility is the pistons sticking. It can't be the lines or the MC, you proved that by opening the bleeders.

Sounds good to be I’ll head in that direction, thanks for the support I’m fairly green when it comes to brakes and just didn’t want to take a bunch of things apart for no reason.
Thanks!

I just rebuilt front and rear calipers, front master cylinder, and in the process of rebuilding rear master cylinder on my 78 GL1000. I bought the kits at Parts N More, I did not think it was too difficult. Lots of stuff on the forums about this, which I took full advantage of. ;) We stand on the shoulders of those who went before us!
