Upgrading next tax season

Post by Uncle Fester » Tue Jun 12, 2018 11:52 pm

Ok, I am going to most likely be selling my current bike, a 1996 Aspencade with 160K on it due to mileage and more importantly, how hard it is to get body panels for it....
My current thoughts are, in my order of preference:
1 first gen GL-1800
2 a fiberglass body VW trike like my old one
3 a 2007 or newer Harley Davidson Electra-Glide (103ci & 6speed)

I know all about the VW trike , what to look for, what to avoid etc as I used to be a VW shop owner and mechanic.

H-ads, I have a lot of help there from club brothers and family members who own them, so good there.

But what do I need to look for, and avoid in my search of a GL-1800 ? Any years to avoid ? Any known problems with xxxx years? Anything ?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer ! Uncle Fester

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do.
So throw off the bowlines.
Sail away from the safe harbor.
Catch the trade winds in your sails.

I can't think of anything that should be a deal breaker as far as the year of the bike.

all of the "frame issues" are now 15 years old and more, so a non-issue now.

my 2002 runs like new and has not given me any trouble.

Thanks for the link, unfortunately I will not have the cash to buy before tax season, no matter how good the deal may be.
