Hollsco Goldwing 7 Volt Regulator
Electronic Goldwing Accessory
The Problem
If you have a GL1000, GL1100 or GL1200 Standrd Goldwing with mechanical (not electronic LCD) temperature and fuel gauges, you've had this problem. Or...you will. It's only a matter of time. You'll start noticing that your temperature and fuel gauges are reading off the scale - the temperature is in the red, and the fuel shows full. The only thing is, the bike isn't overheating, and you know you've only got a quarter tank left. Or...even worse: your bike is operating normally, and suddenly your temperature and fuel gauges just turn off, and look like the picture above. How much fuel have you got left? You'll have to guess!
The Cause
What's causing it? A faulty, worn-out 7 volt voltage regulator. Behind the fuel and temperature gauges is a special voltage regulator that turns your motorcycle's normal 12 volts into the 7 volts on which these two gauges run. When it starts to fail, it typically starts doing so intermittently. Left in a failed state, it can cause damage - allowing a full 12 volts into your temperature and fuel gauges, destroying the delicate coils inside! That gets expensive, requiring the replacement of the entire center gauge cluster!
The Diagnosis
Now let me state one thing: If one of the two gauges is working normally, and the other is not, then your problem is not your 7 volt regulator. But if both of them are not working correctly - it's time to replace that regulator. The symptoms of a failed 7 volt regulator are both fuel and temperature gauges reading high, or both reading zero, and it commonly happens intermittently for a while before complete failure.
The Solution
Honda's replacement part for this common failure item on older Goldwings costs over a hundred dollars! Other aftermarket suppliers charge $60 or more for a copy of the original part. Now you can replace this failed part with a state-of-the-art solid-state modern voltage regulator that will not fail after years of use like the original equipment, and save a lot of money in the process! This modern replacement is available for just $39.99.
Can I fix it myself?
This 7-volt regulator has been designed and manufactured by WingAdmin - the owner of this web site - originally to fix this exact problem on his very own 1982 GL1100A. I had so many people asking me to make one for them as well, I decided to buy a large amount of parts and make them in bulk, to bring the cost of production down. It is designed to plug in exactly in place of your OEM unit. Detailed instructions with pictures are included, and full unlimited support is provided on this web site. Replacing this regulator on your motorcycle is well within the capabilities of a casual home DIY mechanic and requires only a couple screwdrivers and 30 to 45 minutes time.
These regulators are built to withstand years of abuse. They are shockproof, waterproof and fully tested before shipping.
While the regulators are identical, the wire terminations are different depending on the model and year of your Goldwing motorcycle:

Type B: 1978, 1979 GL1000 Goldwing
Type C: All GL1100, and GL1200 Standard Goldwings (with standard, non-LCD gauges)

"Just thought I'd drop you a line to let you know I installed the 7 volt regulator in my 1982 GL1100 and "hey presto" the fuel and temperature gauges are now working again! I am delighted at this "easy fix" solution, and even happier that I can now monitor my fuel and temperature situation. I'd still be running around with dead gauges had I not read your newsletter tip about the faulty regulators."

Note: Shipping rates have increased for all International shipments to cover cost of shipping insurance, now included on all orders. We're now requiring this due to the large number of orders going missing in transit.
UK Customers: We apologize, but we are no longer shipping to the United Kingdom. The UK has demanded that as of January 1, 2021, all international sellers must collect 20% VAT for all purchases being shipped to the UK. To do this, we must open a UK tax account, submit quarterly payments and tax return filings to the UK, and track all of this in the customs submissions in order to be able to sell and ship items to the UK. This is an expensive and time-consuming burden that we are not going to undertake. The UK is the only country in the WORLD that is requiring international sellers to open VAT accounts, collect VAT and submit it directly to the the purchaser's tax authority. We are definitely not the only online vendor that is halting shipments to the UK due to this change in policy. We suggest that you contact your elected officials and complain bitterly.
Still Need to Purchase Our Products? Some of our products ARE still shipping to the UK from the GoldwingDocs eBay store, albeit at a slightly higher price in order to cover the expensive eBay seller fees. This is because eBay is collecting and submitting VAT on our behalf.
