Re: GL1000 engine shutting down at lower speeds (while running warm)

You should feel a tremendous sense of accomplishment in what you’ve been able to do with your GL. I think I could equate it with working on the Saturn V back in the 60s, the things they achieved back then with the level of technology available at the time. These bikes are the same in that most curre...

Re: How to replace discontinued GL1000 Carb Intake Boots with GL1500 parts

Timely thread. I'm sure we will all face this insulator issue at some point. It's a big deal getting OEM insulators for CB750s, good to have a solution at hand now for GL1000s. I may try it on one of mine intake tubes to see how well it works.

Re: Carb issues?

The gl1000..whew..I had one and when dialed in it would ruuuuuunnn. I did have a few problems to overcome tho and one of them was the carbs. They would start out ok but get really rich and puke out the engine... I'd service them precise and for a few minutes they ran perfect..then get too rich agai...

Re: Roadfaxit VIN check scam?

I’m just glad I could get this perp’s name, modus and ties to roadfaxit out there to potentially save someone some grief. I’m out 24 bucks plus had to shut down my card, and I damn well knew better. Just goes to show like I think I said before, there’s just as much phishing danger to sellers as well...

Re: Roadfaxit VIN check scam?

They start out with nickles and dimes just too see if its noticed. If not things ramp up very quickly. I caught a $1.05 charge on my card last year out of Krakow Poland. My first time was in London in 2008 while still with the airlines. Back then they went right for the jugular, charging plane and ...

Re: Roadfaxit VIN check scam?

Well, it gets sadder. My bank called this morning to ask about some charges they had flagged; they weren't mine. Could be a coincidence that someone got our card number (it happens) but just seems damned unlikely. It was mainly nickel-and-time stuff, but adds up. In the old days they charged plane t...

Re: Roadfaxit VIN check scam?

The site looks legit. The pay-in-the-UK thing depends on the payment processor. Every company uses different payment processor, that's not a starting point. But I saw that the site has verified address and a few reliable partners, I even found a few Craigslist sellers who posted this report. I'll b...

Re: Roadfaxit VIN check scam?

Maybe you will luck out. Every time I list a bike for sale I get those same VIN check scams. I haven't fallen for it though. lol This is the first time I've seen it. Last year it was a too-good-to-be-true CB750 for $500. "I'm overseas with Uncle Sam and need it to go to a good home. Can't text, can...

The shaft is held in place by a circlip that has been removed in the photo.
In that case the shaft must press in from behind, a few solid taps with the mallet should be enough to determine if it will move and not damage anything.

Re: GL1000 starter rebuild - reduction gear head assembly

The starter section in my Honda GL1000 manual is only eight pages long, and says nothing about the drive reduction assembly. I am guessing from your pic that the bearing is pressed in, retaining the drive in the process; or am I seeing threads on the drive shaft? Excellent pic, btw.

Re: Ever got rid of a bike you wish you hadn't?

Absolutely! There have been several... actually, wish I had them all back. However, most recently the KLR650 I sold two years ago, still haunts me. I wish it were sitting next to the Wing in the shop, now, as it has been raining, and my 1 mile of private dirt road is a mess. Hey, bikes are family, ...

Re: Motor flutters

Might be an exhaust leak or a loose or clogged baffle? See if you can feel any exhaust escaping around the couplings or blowing out any other place it shouldn't. Look in the tailpipes for a loose or clogged baffle.

Re: Ever got rid of a bike you wish you hadn't?

The one I truly miss is my 96 Kawasaki KLR-650... That's funny, I traded in and out of a 96 KLR last year. Traded my 83 Yamaha Venture for it, but it was too tall for me even after lowering it. Sold it to a 6'4" tall gentleman who made it look small. Ish. But through trading the Yamaha I met the gu...
