08 heated seat repair
Hello all. I was replacing my seat cover when I discovered a melted area on the backrest portion of the driver's seat. Is there a way to safely repair this? It appears to have gotten hot enough to burn through whatever the heating element is covered with. Doable safely, or look for another seat. Tha...

Re: RPM range at 70mph, where should it read?
RPM changed when he installed a Henrys Modified Final drive which changes the gearing from 2.75 to 2.26. The resulting lower RPMS is read at the output shaft and calculated to show MPH - the Speedohealer adjusts that. Yep. The main thing I wanted to show was the lower rpm's vs a given speed for tho...

Re: RPM range at 70mph, where should it read?
Late to the party due to being down hard with COVID for three weeks. I installed Henry's FD but along the way discovered the speedo to be WAY off. GPS consistently showed 79 mph at an indicated 70. I put in a Speedo Healer and dialed it in to where GPS and speedo agree. So now at 70 mph I'm indicati...

Re: When the tip-over damage is not so bad after all.
I think we've all been there, or will be one day. Back in 2014 I was all set to move out on my Yamaha Venture when I remembered my wallet was still sitting on the kitchen counter. Knowing the kickstand was down, I leaned it back onto it and started to dismount. It wasn't. You know the past-the-tippi...

Re: The frustrating task of finding that PART
The parts aren't expensive. What is expensive is the warehousing of the part for YEARS before it eventually gets sold - and that's what you're paying for. I had a brand new, old-stock mirror assembly for a 1989 PC800 here that I had forgotten that I had. I was going through some stuff and found it,...

Re: Kill switch issues from "new" ebay part
Thanks guys. Switch was listed as "new" on ebay but I really think I it was installed for a while, as there are water stains on the housing like it's been sitting in the weather, plus a thin coat of brown dirt on the harness. I've exercised the switch a bit and will before each ride. Since...

That's the anal part, it's just the red markings for kill and run. It's not like I don't know which is which. That's what I get for wanting that new look!

Kill switch issues from "new" ebay part
2008 GL1800 Navi. Bought a switch advertised as new off eBay to replace the one that was on the bike because the paint was worn off and I'm anal about those things. After the install the bike started right up. I bumped the handlebar and she died. Started right back up but when I tapped on top of the...

Re: The Magic Is Gone!
I'm 62 and just bought a BMW R1200GS, better suited to the the desert southwest and mountains where I live. But I know a little about hanging up the spurs. I made the decision to retire from airline flying at age 60, the old retirement age, in 2018. Several folks lambasted me for leaving five years'...

Re: 1976 GL1000 All of a sudden not running/dying
Late reply, apologies. I find it easiest to have the engine at TDC for #1 cylinder, then tilt the "cover" outward at the mounting end. Small rotations back and forth and the lever will pop over the cam. The cover will then seat properly against the head. The tach drive usually doesn't give...

Re: OIL LEAKING FROM EXHAUST/SMOKING HEAVILY
My symptoms were similar on a 76 that sat here in the desert for four years at least. Once I got the heads off the right side gasket was quite rusted between the cylinders and around the fire rings. Glad I decided to remove the heads.

Re: GL 1000 HONDA Decal
I found a cheap false tank on ebay and was able to gently remove the metal decal, then reglue it to my top leaf. I've cannibalized various other bits from it too, so was a good avenue for me.

Randakks sells two different float post repair kits, $36 and $38. I used the $38 setup on a CB750 carb with good results.

Re: Gl1000 overheating
Just read a post on another GL forum about high temps, that one turned out to be the 7V regulator. In that case, along with the high temp the fuel gauge was reading high. Guy ran out of gas twice because of it and finally figured out it was the regulator when it burned out. Just a thought.

Han, one of my GLs came to me with 1100 carbs on it. Being new to the GL world if someone hadn't pointed it out, I would have chased issues for a while before figuring out the deal. Unless you're sure, a quick pic post here will let us see what you have installed. Just a thought.

Re: GL1000 engine shutting down at lower speeds (while running warm)
You should feel a tremendous sense of accomplishment in what you’ve been able to do with your GL. I think I could equate it with working on the Saturn V back in the 60s, the things they achieved back then with the level of technology available at the time. These bikes are the same in that most curre...

Re: How to replace discontinued GL1000 Carb Intake Boots with GL1500 parts
Timely thread. I'm sure we will all face this insulator issue at some point. It's a big deal getting OEM insulators for CB750s, good to have a solution at hand now for GL1000s. I may try it on one of mine intake tubes to see how well it works.

The gl1000..whew..I had one and when dialed in it would ruuuuuunnn. I did have a few problems to overcome tho and one of them was the carbs. They would start out ok but get really rich and puke out the engine... I'd service them precise and for a few minutes they ran perfect..then get too rich agai...

I’m just glad I could get this perp’s name, modus and ties to roadfaxit out there to potentially save someone some grief. I’m out 24 bucks plus had to shut down my card, and I damn well knew better. Just goes to show like I think I said before, there’s just as much phishing danger to sellers as well...
