Re: This is the most difficult bike I have ever worked on.

Was a great trip until the sun went down and then you realize that 1999 lighting really sucks!

That was first on the list to replace! Easy peasy!

Re: This is the most difficult bike I have ever worked on.

As a new to me Goldwing 1500 owner I had to chime in on this thread. I've never wrenched on a Goldwing before but have owned a Yamaha XV1300 Venture and a Honda GL1500 Valkyrie. The valk was crazy easy to work on because it simply had very little body work to remove but the Yamaha Venture was a bear...

Re: Ratteling hydrolic lifters on startup

No, I haven’t. I want to though! Have done anything mechanical to the bike yet besides light upgrades and brake pads. So interesting enough yesterday in the garage as I was just cycling in the seafoam the tick went from pretty loud to nothing, then came back quieter. I will run the bike today and tr...

Re: Ratteling hydrolic lifters on startup

So I noticed my engine producing an annoying knock or tick from the left side. Sometimes I can hear it and other times I can’t. Yesterday was particularly loud and as the rpms increased the the ticking increases. Can’t really say it’s knock and definitely not a piston pinging knock but none the less...

Re: I'm torn....stay with the 1500 or move on to the 1800

So we're staying with the 1500 for now and will continue to upgrade and replace parts. Just ordered a new lcd panel and bulbs for the instrument cluster, new fork springs and seal kit, and will be doing front and rear wheel bearing over the next month. Now to get a lift here pronto! thanks again, An...

Re: I'm torn....stay with the 1500 or move on to the 1800

thank you for all the comments. Still torn but making it more about being happy with what I have. This will come in time as I make the bike mine and solid. I will continue to go through the bike and do all of the preventative maintenance and upgrade components as needed. Perhaps I'll just save the m...

I'm torn....stay with the 1500 or move on to the 1800

Picked up this new to me 1999 Goldwing SE with 82k miles on it. Rode it home 850 miles in January from Chicago to NJ which was a real chance to learn all about the bike and it's pros and cons. Got it home and wrote a punch list in my head about how I can make this bike solid to my liking. Took all t...

How do you remove the Left Middle Exhaust Shield

I'm stumped with this one. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Do you have to remove the kick stand to get this little bugger off?

thanks in advance!

Re: New to me 1999 GL1500 SE and no rear turn signals!

So this weekend was an attempt to clean up the bike and get the road salt off as quick as possible. Most of the plastic comes off pretty darn easy and quickly which helps to expose the GL interior. Took most of the plastic inside for a good scrubbing and cleaning and to inspect for damages from the ...

Re: New to me 1999 GL1500 SE and no rear turn signals!

You are a wealth of wing info! The bike is an SE so I will look again tomorrow. Have spent a good part of day cleaning the body panels as I remove them. Wife wasn't too happy with a sink full of GL body parts ;) I'll take some pictures tomorrow and share the bikes ongoing transformation to a "Sport ...

Re: New to me 1999 GL1500 SE and no rear turn signals!

I tend to be drawn to bikes in stock form. Accessories are very personal and I wanted a clean slate plus I never plan to tow anything with this bike. If I have to carry that much I'll take the car ;)

It's just like chrome, some love it, and some curse it.

Re: New to me 1999 GL1500 SE and no rear turn signals!

We have a bingo!! Removed the lower trunk cover and in a jiffy found four connections just dangling. Two red connectors and two green connectors. I found a home for the red connectors, plugged them in and just like that we have turn signals! Now I need to figure out where the green connectors go to ...
