Re: starter problem

Funny you should bring that up. My battery is 3 years old and hasn't given me any problems. Kept a tender on over winter. I was using a mechanic from Just Answer and sent him a video of what was happening. He said I had a dead cell. 11.5 volts with the key off and 6 volts with the ignition on. Bough...

Re: starter problem

The 1800's are the same. Power goes from the battery to A starter relay to B starter relay to starter. To energize the starter relays, power goes from the battery to the starter switch to A starter relay to the reverse relay to the reverse regulator assembly then to the B starter relay. checked all ...

starter problem

I am at my wits end. Last week my 02 gl1800 starter wouldn't turn over. Battery is good, connections are tight. just click, click, click. In fact, the last time it started it just clicked and for the next 20 minutes nothing until if finally did turn over. When I got home - nothing. I tore it apart t...

Starter relay A & B

Can anyone tell me if these relays are interchangeable. I can order a new relay from amazon for less than $20 apiece but they don't specify if it is the A or B relay. I'd rather order from amazon than pay $60 apiece from the honda dealer.

reverse dilemma

I just got my 1800 out of storage and everything worked just fine, starter, reverse and etc. After waiting a couple of weeks for a part, I took it out for a quick ride. After about 5 miles, I stopped at a store to buy something and attempted to put it in reverse. It started to make a clunking sound,...

Re: intermittent reverse problem

Ok, now the cable idea makes sense. I forgot about how the reverse works. I am leaning towards the relay switch. Just yesterday I wanted to go for a ride but when I pressed the started switch nothing happened. Starter didn't engage. Even after multiple tries at pushing the switch nothing happen. I c...

Re: intermittent reverse problem

Earlier this spring I cleaned the switch thoroughly but I will spray it again. I do have a service manual and I'm not sure what cables you are referring to. I will look into the B starter relay. Thanks everyone

Re: intermittent reverse problem

I thought maybe it could be a dirty switch, but I have sprayed that button earlier this summer trying to get the radio to work (volume issue I've been trying to solve) so I don't think that this is the problem. I am willing to spray it again.

intermittent reverse problem

I am having an intermittent problem with reverse on my 2002 GL1800. After I start the bike and push the reverse button (reverse light come on) and try to back up, the bike will move about an inch and stop. I will push the start/reverse button again and it will move in reverse normally. There has bee...

Re: What does every one do for a living?

I plow snow for the State of Minnesota. That is my main job. They keep me busy during the summer months doing odd maintenance highway jobs, patching potholes, lots of potholes, fixing fence, guardrail and high tension cable barriers. I've been doing this job for approximately 11 years and hopefully ...

Re: Please tell who or what made you buy a Goldwing

I got into riding a motorcycle by accident. A friend was selling his 650 Kawi and I bought it. After learning how to ride it, I went on a couple of longer trips and was really worn out after the ride. I wanted a bigger bike. Well, that 650 was stolen and trashed, so I went without a bike for a few y...

I was planning on cleaning my wheels last weekend but the weather was so nice I decided to go for a ride instead. The cleaning is on hold for awhile.

Re: Best Way to Clean Wheels?

This is a timely article. I had to replace my rear tire on my 1800 and noticed how dirty it (then looked at the front wheel and saw the same condition). I now have some ideas and will probably be cleaning my rims this weekend.

Re: Please tell who or what made you buy a Goldwing

I started riding motorcycles in the early 80's starting with a Kawasaki 650. It was a good starter bike. When that was stolen, I graduated to a 1100 Kawi. It was a good cruising bike and I took a trip to Yellowstone with it. I sold that bike because I wasn't riding it as much as it deserved. After a...

Cover

Hate to think about it but it is getting close to put my bike into storage. I'm wonder what length cover I should buy to enclose the entire bike. I have a 02 GL 1800. According to the owners manual the length of the bike is 104 inches.

Re: problem with radio volume

My Goldwing does not have a CB radio, but I will check the intercom mute. I'm not sure if this is the problem because the volume problem seems to be an intermittent problem. The volume seems fine one minute and then a few miles down the road it gets softer. Thanks for the advice.

Re: problem with radio volume

I didn't push the mute button accidently because mute did not come up on the radio display. I was driving down the road when the volume got softer so I don't think that the mute button is the problem.

problem with radio volume

I just recently purchased a 2002 Goldwing 1800 and the radio worked just fine. Then one day, the volume on the radio went very low and I lost it completely. After driving for awhile, the volume came back on then it went soft again. I tried looking for a broken wire or loose ground but could not find...
