Re: Blowing fuse. Wire question. GL 1500

Gentlemen, Thank you all so much for your assistance. I am happy to say that I found the problem today. The left marker light, under the rear saddle bag. The wires had worked close to the exhaust, and melted. The resulting contact was what all my troubles were. I soldered in new wires and connection...

Please pardon my ignorance, but, a bad relay can’t cause this issue, can it?

Re: Blowing fuse. Wire question. GL 1500

Thank you sir for your reply, The heat-shrink tubing is my own doing. I did that myself, after finding that the insulation had melted away on that particular wire. Answering your question, I can most definitely feel the wire heating up. When you turn the key on, within two seconds you can no longer ...

Re: Blowing fuse. Wire question. GL 1500

Thank you for the input. I found today that without that wire connected, the starter will not turn over. But, everything else will light up. If the coupler is the weak spot, would it be advisable to by-pass the coupler with that specific wire, and just solderbit directly?

Thanks
James

Re: Blowing fuse. Wire question. GL 1500

Thank you very much. I will get back to work on it tomorrow. What you said made me remember that my brother in law told me that I had a “light loose” on the back end. I was busy, and forgot about him saying it. I will check it tomorrow

Re: Blowing fuse. Wire question. GL 1500

Oh, I forgot to mention. It has no tracer color on the wire that is getting hot. Just green. Top left on the coupler. Or bottom right, depending on which way you are looking at it.

Re: Blowing fuse. Wire question. GL 1500

Thank you for your help. There are 24 wires in that coupler. It does not blow unless the key is on. It will frank and run, but no headlights, OD light, tachometer, or neutral light. Today I soldered in a new section of the green wire that I could see had started to melt. Unfortunately that didn’t he...

Blowing fuse. Wire question. GL 1500

Hello, Bike: 88 GL1500 A couple days ago, I started blowing the same fuse. Fourth from the bottom. It carries the headlights, tach, neutral light, OD light on the dash. As soon as I put a fuse in, it is blown. So I finally traced the wire down that is getting hot. Under the seat. The coupler harness...

Re: Adding rear shock oil

Thank you. Turns out, it was the pump. So now I have a new pump on. It pumps up GREAT. BUT now it loses pressure VERY quickly. I am beyond frustrated. I have spent two days trying to find the leak. And I can’t. Before I changed the pump I at least maintained what pressure that I had. I have sprayed...

Adding rear shock oil

Hello friends, I want to add rear shock oil. I understand how to do this, but I need to know if I need to evacuate all of the air from the suspension before adding the oil. I know it’s probably a common sense question, due to having to compress the shocks and fill on the up-stroke, but I need to ask...

Re: New Member, COOLING FAN advice please

Well, I tried my best to get the fan out myself. I stopped after about two hours. I don’t think I can do it without breaking something. Fortunately, I know a guy lol. I have another fan coming. I’ll let someone do it that has the skill and experience.

Re: GL1500 stereo upgrade/replacement

I've been playing with different ideas to upgrade my stereo ever since I started riding Wings 20 years ago. Thrilled at the Unobtanium idea, and already signed up in the other thread. I'm currently playing with a BT cassette adapter which seems to work pretty well, although it's got its own issues ...

Re: New Member, COOLING FAN advice please

Hi James, Yes, fans should operate same way both when they are engaged. Left fan connector pins have good clean surfaces? I don’t know if motor can be opened and cleaned, or supply 12v to run it manually if it gets better? I would replace it, then it should work perfect. Remember also to check and ...

Re: Cruise control speeding up on bumps

Thank you gentlemen for the input. Yes, we have horrific roads in Louisiana. Unfortunately, roads in and around the Shreveport area are of much better quality than where I am located. I have been through there hundreds of times at work. The only thing out here with me is Bigfoot and gators. I am loc...

Re: GL1500 stereo upgrade/replacement

Here is one of the really shallow depth media receivers that would be perfect on the blanking plate! This thing is what, 1 1/2" deep? Perfect! EBEk9VPsix4 That sounds GREAT Stew! But I am afraid that it appears your link or information about that narrow-depth control head did not make it in to the ...

Re: New Member, COOLING FAN advice please

Gentlemen, I installed the new fan switch today. When the temps came up, both fans engaged. HOWEVER, I noted that the right fan was performing very strong, blowing off a significant amount of heat. The LEFT fan, engaged only for about two minutes. During this period, I observed that the left fan was...
