Re: Rebuild engine or replace?

Have you looked at the How To Articles on the top of the forum page? Checking it out now the easiest way ive found to do the seals is to pull the plugs, valve cover, and camshaft. rotate the engine to bdc, then feed 2 feet of 1/4 inch rope. rotate engine until the rope is pressed against the valves...

1981 carbs

Does anyone have a line on someone that can rebuild carbs? Or a contact number for pistol pete in east tennessee? I was given 81 and the carbs need to be overhauled, but the rest of the bike is in fairly good shape.

I have everything except the 3 or 4 inch pulley for the crankshaft. That is the only piece that I cannot find.

Re: stator/rectifier

found the problem. it was a bad battery. i took it to autozone yesterday, before posting, and it tested there as good. i had a buddy come over to help with diags, and everything on the bike checked out. he hooked his tester up to the battery, and it was bad. live and learn, then go to oriellys.

Re: Blown head gasket

Tank cover off, I rode 40ish miles, 15 of that on the highway doing 80. no leaks. I still have the rythmic knock at low rpm, goes completely away past 1800 rp...

Re: Blown head gasket

Any ideas for how to remove the varnish looking stuff? The block is level, so I doubt want to use the sandpaper and glass to remove it.
