Re: No helmet

I went to the hospital with a duramater hemotoma. That is a brain bleed under the duramater layer. I know many of you know this. It happened when I fell off my trailer. I was not riding and not wearing any head protection. After the initial injury I had brief spells where I would lose all strength o...

Re: Average age ?

The GW is a better bike than any HD. I have one of each. The HD riders know it and it makes them angry so they don't wave. I heard the HDs are made in India, maybe Katmandu? If I ever get to Nepal "I'm going to Katmandu", huh?

Re: Why no reponse to "helpful" replies

Maybe they are people like me. I've been onboard for a year since I bought my 2nd "wing. I enjoy reading the various posts to get a sense for what the bike's strengths and weaknesses are. I may or may not have asked questions but based on the questions and replies made by others here, I've developed...

Re: What's Happening Today?

I had one of those VF700s years ago. It was a snail but it was easy to look at and the handle bar placement was right enough so that it was fairly comfortable to ride. It had around 22,000 miles on it and it ran good.

Re: Stranded on the side of the road

I remember going put-put down the road on my Cushman Eagle about 1960. If I stopped for any reason, various big hairy bikers on HDs or European bikes would stop & ask if I needed any help. They were nice people. It was like belonging to a club, with no dues. It was reassuring to be offered help even...

Hi Bill, There are some bright guys here. You probably have already discovered that on your own. I have a '86 Aspencade that seems to run well. It's not especially pristine. but I can live with that. One of the amazing things about my bike is that you can come to a complete stop, and then the bike m...

Re: What Were The Worst Riding Conditions You Ever Experienced?

Here is a different thought when you think it can't get worse: I had a health issue 8 years ago after my son was murdered. I was hunting and only 100 yards from my truck. I became light headed and couldn't walk due to an interior bleed. I was crawling back to my truck and I reached a point where I c...

Re: The Magic Is Gone!

Riding has lost some of its appeal to me also, as have other things. The GW is a handful and sometimes for local errands I just take the 1200 Sportster. It's only 550 # and I haven't dropped IT yet. I never rode with a crowd in the past but most of the few people who I did ride with are gone. Somewh...

Re: Rebuilding a GL1000 Seat

Go to a moderately sized upholstery shop and buy sufficient quantities of a fairly firm, perhaps bonded foam for a 2" (appx.) base and a soft foam for top layer. Think in terms of starting with 1" foam. Perhaps it will cost $20.. Use contact cement to glue it all together. Cement the first layer to ...

Re: Chronicles of a Motorcycle Gypsy: The 49 States Tour

There has been too much emphasis on writing errors and not enough on content. I did enjoy the thread though. I'll probably get a copy of the book. I spent a few years in a Catholic school run by real "Blackhawks". I learned that errors in grammar, spelling, word choice, punctuation and most everythi...

Re: What's the strangest thing you've hit?

I was on a country road years ago riding my 750 Honda as fast as I could and a hen pheasant collided with the cylinders & squirted eggs on the motor. Didn't disrupt the bike; felt like a small "bump". I've hit worse "potholes" in the spring.

These are all reasons I don't visit Canada or fly anywhere, and I have NO legal history. Those countries can keep their rapists and other criminals to themselves. In the 70s, 80s, and 90s I used to visit Canada several times every year but never again. My family sent firearms to Great Brittan for th...

Apparently the good Michigan Guv'ner can't understand normal thinking and the electorate is just discovering this. She also decided in her divine wisdom that no one could use an outboard on their fishing boat. That in itself warrants an armed protest. Get rid of her next election.

Re: 2nd Amendment

Although no one mentioned it, many of us carry a concealed weapon so that we might be able to protect others who may be preyed upon by a criminal element. We also protect ourselves and family. My goal is to never have to hurt anyone & I feel the best way to realize this goal is to stay away from dan...

Today I reinstalled the (correctly recharged) battery in my ATV and the engine started perfectly. The lights worked but I don't know if the alternator works yet. I'll have to ride it to find out. Overall, it looks like I lucked out.

I didn't get to it today~~raining out. Charging outside in case it explodes. The polarity remains correct on the battery.

Yeah. I'm worried about damage to the vehicle, too.

Re: I did a bad thing to my Battery

I discharged the battery and put a partial charge in it, enough to cause the positive terminal to actually be positive. I'll finish the charge tomorrow & see if there is enough "current" to start the vehicle. My meter shows a tad over 12 volts. Thanks for your input! This is a sealed battery, almost...

I did a bad thing to my Battery

My battery was completely discharged so I put my charger on 3 amps, and charged it up. BUT I accidentally switched polarity and now the positive + terminal is negative - and the negative is positive. I didn't even know that was possible. The first clue I had was the starter "bendix" wouldn't engage,...

Re: What's everyone's two-wheeled History?

This is about someone else's bike. The guy who owned it was cool, in some respects he was the "Fonze" where I went to school. The bike was an older HD Known locally as a "74", kick start, probably hand shift, that appeared appropriately "ratty". The guy who owned it rode it everywhere, year round, i...

Re: Impaired riding

I remember 45 years ago riding my bike impaired. The road was whipping around like the tail of an angry snake for my six mile drive home. It was NOT a confidence-inspiring feeling. I did the same on the following night and never did it again. I eventually gave up the spirits, concluding that alcohol...

It's very quiet in my little northern Wisconsin county of about 19,000. Most everything (as usual) is closed and only 4 virus deaths in the entire state which is too many if it's one of yours. We are getting good compliance with health department recommendations. I read an email yesterday that said ...

Re: Do you recall the first time you saw a Goldwing in person??

Yeah. Probably 1975. I just bought a new 1975 750SS and my friend Paul the gunsmith just bought a new GW 1000. In a first gear "roll on" I could stay even with the GW until about 70 mph, and then the Wing would slowly pull away. No replacement for displacement. Both bikes would turn high 12s in a qu...

Re: Do you wear your " Helmet "

Been riding almost 60 years. The guy who has the bike shop races professionally and I told him I wanted a helmet just like his. I think most of us have more important battles than a "helmet law". I'm from WI & I don't think we have a helmet law, and I don't care. I wear mine when I ride. In WI you n...
