Re: Oil filter question
Old timers (I'm one BTW) remember when having an oil filter, was a luxury. Every time I service my machine, the filter gets replaced. Most any filter will do IMO. In 2020, oil filters have been around for decades. Filter & Oil technology has been in step all along.. My father gave me his PowerPa...

Re: Synthetic oil or non-synthetic
If most of your riding does not involve many miles per trip, I'll suggest using a POA base. If you run a lot of miles, the synthetic of your choice should be considered. Why.. POA based oils tend to maintain a cleaner engine. Synthetic oil is excellent (it's actually better than most realize) but te...

Friction Modifies are not designed with wet clutch's 'in their' spec.
A little added cushion in a clutch design, goes a long
way in prolonging the useful life of the drive line..

Re: Synthetic oil or non-synthetic
I'm also curious about how friction modifiers adversely affect the performance of a wet clutch - is it a matter of permanent damage to surface of the clutch plates, or more of a temporary issue that can be resolved at the next oil change? Thanks in advance to who ever might be knowledgeable and hel...

FWIW..
I used Lucas in my B' Series Dodge Dually for almost 400K w/T6 and never had any issues, pulling whatever, all over the country. Then again, a Goldwing isn't a diesel or a rig pulling a 40' float.
Still have the Dually btw.. (for sale & I'll kick in the float.) pc

Re: Advice needed for new wire harness swap out
If you have not replaced the harness/switch yet..?? Why not TRY to clean the old switch. My switch was in the same condition (it would not turn off.) I disassembled and cleaned (CRC Contact Cleaner) and lubed, now all is nominal and I know how to fix the switch when I turn 95 (right.) BTW, check the...

Check for a vacuum leak... hopefully it's a hose. Next attempt, would be to snug-up the all of the carb fasteners. Use your preferred carb cleaner (i like MMO) and cross your fingers while you allow it to do it's thing. Good luck, because, rebuilding the carbs is around your next corner.. pc :ugeek:

Re: Advice needed for new wire harness swap out
Why did you decide to replace the switch assembly?
Did you have any thought of trouble shooting and repairing the OE piece.
Typically (IMO) replacing things with used equipment isn't that positive unless the OE piece is complete junk.

SKF 9879 SEAL/Honda has one too (if you got lots of $$$.)
Seal for the alternator drive. (less than $10.00.)
When this seal goes away the alternator gets wet (w/oil.)
BTW, this seal has nothing to do with the Alternator O-Ring Seal. pc

GL1500 ECM, Alternators and Batteries
This thought crossed my mind. In lieu of all of the ongoing alternator issues. I used to think that upgrading a battery from a OEM battery to a improved design battery was a good move. Then... I remember a service bulletin referencing the idea and the (sometime) problem it created. Seems that...

With the age of the bike.. sounds like valve guide seals. Who knows? Buy, beg, borrow or steal a leak tester and confirm cylinder wall condition with a peek into the cylinder's. Smoking that dries up (eventually) would force me into enjoying the ride and living with the smoke and pretend you are rid...

I'm not up to speed on why Progressive Suspension put 416-1633gla PN on their GL1500 Goldwing shock. Try directing the question to PS. Corrosion has reared its ugly head..
unless you have a mill to make a sleeve,
seems getting another MC is in your future.
Please note; I am not up to speed with a 1100
