Re: Pulling engine gl1100

Thanks Denver. You confirmed what I was already thinking and your advice for figuring out the neutral indicator will be a big help. I've collected all the pics from this project and expect to post the final project soon.

Re: Pulling engine gl1100

I'm at the tail end of an engine swap. I'm trying to remember the details from when I took it apart 6 months ago. The vaccum advance on the tail end of the block (near the gas tank) has a nib for a vaccum line...Where does the other end go? I think it's the carb assembly but I'm not sure. Am I on th...

Linked Brakes: Poll question

I'm working on my 83 Interstate project. The old rear master cylinder was bad. Not many available but found a decent '82. I've already spent money on the front calipers and would like to use it in a linked system. I rebuilt the '82 master. Poll question: Can the master cylinder off the '82 push enou...

Re: Rear master cylinder for 82' GL 1100

The master cylinder on my 83 was seized up and I found an 82 on ebay. After trying the rebuild discovered the difference in the bore. I was wondering why the brake line connector's threads don't seem to fit. Will I have to run a new rigid line? I know the 82s don't have the front and rear calipers l...

Re: Rear Shock Mounts: Nuts!

I found the nuts I need. I do have to chase the threads. I can get a tap and die set but I'll have to purchase the die. Do you know how to measure the threads or what the measurements are? JIS...there are a ton of metric threads that are JIS.

Re: Rear Shock Mounts: Nuts!

Thanks! That's a huge help. I knew something wonky was going on with the threads.

Rear Shock Mounts: Nuts!

Hey guys: I'm working on an 83 Interstate and the knucklehead who had it before me went over it and removed a bunch of parts. I no longer have the nuts that hold the rear shocks onto the frame. I've searched Clymer and other sources and can't find what type of nut is supposed to hold on the shocks. ...

Re: How to rebuild your front brake calipers

So my caliper rebuild has hit a snag and may make buying new calipers a better option. I haven't found any Gold Wing Calipers in popular catalogues. Any tips where I can buy replacements for my 83? If not direct replacements, are there other Honda model calipers that fit? Maybe a shadow caliper or s...

Re: How to rebuild your front brake calipers

Thanks for letting me know. I tried a hammer and center punch but didn't really go at it because I didn't want to mess up other things. I'm also soaking them right now hoping some penetrating lube might help.

Re: Hoses connected to air box

That's great info. Now that I know the environmental impact and the performance implications, I will not mess with the set up for sure.

Re: How to rebuild your front brake calipers

My brake retainer pins are stuck. Any tips on how to get them to budge. (this is on a system that has been dry from brake fluid for years)

Hoses connected to air box

My manual doesn't go in depth as I'd hoped. I am working on an 83 GL1100. There are two clear (albeit old and stained) plastic hoses that go from the air box. One travels through the frame to a mysterious black, sealed cylinder by the back wheel. The other goes back to a connection on the block. Can...

Re: Gl1100 front brake line length

I'm rebuilding an 83 GL1100 and have stripped off the fairing. I find that the brake lines on the front, as well as the throttle cables, are a bit too long and don't look that good. Let me know if you find a way to order them that allows for some customization with the length. You know, to tighten u...

Re: GL1100 Projects for Sale

I am in Virginia and need a GL1100 for my '83. (mine has seized) Do you have an engine available/for sale? I could pick it up because I'm close. Let me know if you have it (and if it turns over). I know you said that it was a "package deal" but if your parts bike has one I could purchase, I wouldn't...

Re: Timing Case broken

Thanks a lot for taking so much time to respond. This is exactly what I needed. The bike didn't run when I got it and I was told it was a starter problem. As I work on it, I find more clues that that info may not have been totally honest. *like the broken timing case). Two plugs were out on the righ...

Timing Case broken

So this is my first post and I'm hoping y'all will have some good news for me. I purchased a project bike (1983 GL1100 Interstate) and after getting it home, discovered that the INSIDE portion of the timing belt case was broken off. The rightside pully is exposed and a tad surface rust. I pulled off...
