WOW..I thought 3D printers were hundreds if not thousands of dollars ..who knew you can have one for $140...and can make upgrades for it on it for next to nothing. Not that I need one, just what a cool toy.. Although in watching a few utube guys it seems getting it running well is a bit of a challen...

Re: First ride with the wife, broke down 5 miles from home

Don't think so..starter could..starter shorted out and it could smoke.. but then it wouldn't crank at all. I'd pull the seat and plastic and look for metaled wires first. Then pull the starter and check it then on to the alternator. If she'll start after sitting for a day or two you could check the ...

gas leak. any gas smell when you stop???? if you pull the carbs again change all those hoses under it..and use a 90* elbow on that one really sharp bend..it's the one that usually fails. Re: Bike don't start. Starter just whizzes.

Applying heat to the area of the sprang might loosen it up a heat gun or even a strong light bulb might do it. Another more involved method requires drilling a hole in a spot so you can squirt solvent right at the sprang's sprang's and plugs. Last pic shows a port added and the straw in the hole..Or...

Re: "Barn Find" Woes

Take the timing belt covers off and see if you have a broken belt ..if yoiu do most likely a bent valve(s) or holed piston if holed piston better/easier/cheaper to get a replacement engine. if the belts are good. do as suggested above..fill cylinders with oil/atf/kerosene etc. and let it for a few d...

Also better to find a 97-2000 engine as those years they "fixed" the tranny 4th gear problem by using...

Check battery connections, the negative ground cable and it's connection to the frame.. sounds like a loose or corroded connection to me..gets hot and works better cools off and no go.
