Re: Pinstripping?

Wish we could trade Tupperware. I like the Wineberry on my '89, but wish my bike looked like your bike. ;)

I wouldn't be in a rush to take off the pinstriping, it does a nice job setting off the otherwise kind of bland color. Give it a while, you may change your mind.

Re: Low fuel light question

When you have some time, it would probably be worth pulling the instrument cluster and replacing all of the bulbs. While doing this, check each socket for voltage -- including the ground side. A low voltage will give a dim bulb, and may mean a corroded connection somewhere. . . .and don't forget to ...

That's because the stock system is kinda pathetic by today's standards. If changing, it's usually preferable to get something better than what was a decent radio three decades ago.

I can just see it.

Re: The Hole That Honda Forgot

Far out! I think the bigger hole works better, but at least they gave you SOMETHING. That looks like it's about the same size as the plug for the bolt hole I mentioned. I've opened that hole a bit also, and feed the cables for my electronics through it. I don't routinely get into the left-side box, ...

My '88 has the access hole.
Interesting. Maybe they had a couple of different designs for the saddlebox? Or different subcontractors making them?

The only hole that was in mine was for a bolt (for the trailer hitch, maybe?), up near the front of the box.

Re: Power loss and idle hunting issues

Initially, it wouldn't stay running and the floats were stuck. I had fuel dump on the floor. I ran through a tank and a half of new fuel with Seafoam. This got it to run well enough to idle on it's own. Seafoam is wonderful stuff, but one treatment might not be enough for the amount of gummy fuel y...

So sounds like it took Honda 2 years to figure out they needed a hole there.
Just about.

Every once in a while, the designers at Honda must like to pretend they're at HD.

Glad they figured it out. The one I cut is larger and probably works better than what you have, but yours is certainly neater.

The Hole That Honda Forgot

Okay, so the weak point in the design of GL1500 Tupperware is the need to either remove or rotate the storage boxes in order to remove the rear wheel. Worse, you have to do this for a job which should be done every couple of thousand miles -- bleeding the brakes. The actual process takes as little a...

Putting it on a leash would have prevented that.

I'm simply suggesting an alternative to spending the money to have a locksmith rekey to match your current key.

Re: Lost my lockable right glove box cover

Do you really need it to lock? You can just modify the lock so that it doesn't work, it would be very unlikely that anyone will check -- they will see the lock and just assume it's actually locked.

My normal way of test rides is to sign two copies of a form giving seller's permission to ride for purposes of evaluating condition and value, and agreement to buy (and proof of ability to pay) at asking price, with the ability to cancel the sale if the motorcycle is returned in the same condition w...

Re: 1500 wing wont run

It's either a serious air leak or fuel delivery. Are you sure you got it all put together right when you did the manifold work? What is happening is that you are getting an air/fuel mix rich enough to get that couple of seconds of fire, but once the airflow gets up to normal, the mixture leans below...

Re: Centramatic for GL1800 fit other models?

Dyna Beads are good. Centramatic is better, in two ways. First, the combination of a smaller mass radius with higher mass is just a little smoother. Second (and most important) is that they are an assembly, easily swappable from one vehicle to another, and unaffected by tire changes. That means that...

Centramatic for GL1800 fit other models?

Centramatic is proud of their products, but they have the advantage of working better than Dyna Beads, etc.

However, while their site shows the GL1800, no other Wings are mentioned.

Will the GL1800 units fit the 1500 or other models?

Rim damage is always a possibility when using steel tools against aluminum rims.

The shop should have put plastic or rubber between the clamps and the rim.

Re: Long distance trailering?

If you're that worried about a few bugs and a little dust, put a heavy coat of auto wax over all of it, and don't wipe it off. When you get to the destination, spray the bike down.

Myself, I don't really worry about it. You get more bugs riding than you do with it on the trailer.
