Re: The Hole That Honda Forgot

So sounds like it took Honda 2 years to figure out they needed a hole there.

Re: How to determine year model of a GL1500

it is a 1990 year model motorcycle.
The "L" in the 10th position of the VIN is the year, and L is for 1990, although the VIN you posted (1HFSC2200LA2032) is 15 digits, and is supposed to be 17.
Plus the big "1990" is the model year as well.

Re: How to fix your speedo error .

If you go look on KING WING - Facebook - People are now putting car tyres on the front wheels aswell .. I have never seen nor heard of anyone putting a car tire on the front of a 2 wheel motorcycle. There is a thing called "double darkside" which is a car tire on the rear and a rear motorcycle tire...

Re: How to fix your speedo error .

The speedo on the GL1500 is driven off the front wheel.
Changing the diameter of the rear wheel will not affect the speedo reading.

Collective thanks to all who contributed here. 3 Cruise issues were resolved from this forum. 1. Cruise engagement lag or delay. FIXED by servo cable adjustment 2. Cruise surging. FIXED By servo cable adjustment 3. 75MPH speed limit. FIXED by pin swap at C33 connector. Yup, such simple things can m...

Re: One other announcement...

Multiple instances of PHP, plus classic ASP plus .Net plus SQL Server, plus Perl, plus a few other things as well. It all adds up! I could probably reduce CPU by adding memory (more SQL would get cached, so less queries hitting disk), but memory is REALLY expensive, it's far cheaper to add CPU. Wha...

It's actually pretty easy to fix. We have a How-To article on it: GL1500 cruise engage lag
Yup, pretty easy to do and completely fixes the lag.
This was one of the first things I did after I got my bike.

Re: How to winterize your motorcycle

The joys of living where I do, my "winterize" is to put on another layer of clothing and change from mesh gloves to regular gloves. June-August are low mile months for me, just too hot to do joy rides. I did not read every post but wanted to add you can buy a decent Battery Tender from Harbor Freigh...

Re: Blackwing fork brace install

My 1500 had a Superbrace on it when I got it, but the wobbling when hitting bumps in high speed curves was especially unnerving. When I replaced the Superbrace with the Blackwing brace, that wobble disappeared completely. The bike was also a lot more tight feeling overall. So there is definitely a ...

Re: Poor braking on '99 Aspencade

Without riding your bike, no way to know if there is an issue or if it is just "how it is".

I felt I had better braking on my VT1100 Shadow with a single disk front and drum rear, but the GL1500 is almost 300 lbs more.
I do feel the braking on mine is sufficient though.

Re: Grip end caps/covers???

Not that I know of. All the bar ends I have seen are designed to fit into a hollow bar. No actual cap that you would need.
You could cut the ends off your bars or maybe drill and tap a hole to make them work, but not something I would want to do.

Re: buying a 94 GL1500 SE tomorrow

Aside from the 4th gear issue above (and to clarify, if you have noise while facing downhill, it is not a good sign). There is also an issue with 3-4 shift that happens on these (some "ghost shifting" were you think you had shifted, but did not engage completely or really notchy shifting) and is dif...

Re: GL1500 Reverse and Neutral Light Issue

There are other things it could be as well, but the relays is an easy check (even just swapping them may help). There is also an issue with the reverse switch that could cause these issues. What year is the trike? There are some slight differences between the '88-'89 wiring and '90+ models for how t...

Re: GL1500 Reverse and Neutral Light Issue

It could also be the neutral (N) switch is bad. The reverse (R) not working is most likely related to no N light. For R to work, it must be in N, and since it is not getting a signal for N, no R. It could also be a bulb (do the N and R lights light up when the ignition switch is turned on?), but a b...

Not even ear plugs or hearing aids? I do get an odd add here or there that is very remotely related.
Hmm, I had searched for some headphone earplugs (I ended up buying some FUZE headphones), so maybe that is it?

I can deal with ads, but that earwax one is just gross. I'm not sure what has suddenly caused Google to start inserting ads like crazy all over the place. I will look at it. As for the content of the ads...what you see is generally based on what you have searched for or browsed the web for previous...

Re: Oil change before or after winter storage?

Best to do it before.... over time and miles oil gets acidic with combustion materials accumulating in it, you don't want that sitting in your crankcase all winter just to change it out in the spring. If I had to "winterize" (I can and do ride year round), I would do the oil change at the end of th...
