If yours is a European model, then it may not have the 85 MPH speedometer.

Re: tell me why ....

It was an American thing.
In the late 70's/early 80's during the gas crunch, speed limits were lowered to 55mph max, and speedometers had no need to go much above that. Not sure if it was a law or just a thing vehicle makers did.

Re: 12” MadStad on 1999 GL1500

Yeah, 5"11" is the weird point for this on a 1500. It all depends on torso length. regular, short torso I think 12" is fine. long torso/long neck, a 14" may be a better choice. The 12" does work for me, and the 14" may not offer me anything more than what the 12 does. L...

Re: Price of parts/ add ons

You are not alone. The listed price should be just that, the price. I can understand TT&L not being included, but "dealer fees" and "service charges" added later are just wrong and deceptive practice. I won't pay for them in the auto world, and won't pay them in the motorcycl...

Re: Planning CO trip for June. How many mi/day do you Avg?

I have yet to take a multi day long distance trip ( have done some 400 mile to location, 2-3 days riding 200-300 miles a day in that location, then back home), but have done quite a few 300+ mile rides, a couple of 400 mile rides, and one 500 mile. I find a big part of how I feel depends on the road...

Re: Is there a difference, 1997 - 1998 Aspencade?

I don't know of any real significant differences between '97 and '98. '97 is when the GL1500 received the "upgraded" parts from the Valkyrie (transmission is the big one, fixing the 4th gear shift fork issue). I think that is when the seat was changed a little also to be a little lower. '9...

Do you have a link of what you bought?
There are knock offs of the one by peppi-le-pew on e-bay. No idea of the quality of those.
Seems peppi-le-pew does not have any on e-bay right now?

Re: Life without the shifter brace?

Did you get the original brace or some other one? I had no issues with the engine guard, but know some do. I had a very simple install. As for not having it, it is a know weak point that many have had issues with, and is thought to be a part of the reason for the 4th gear issues in the earlier years...

Re: Air suspension???

Are you checking the pressure while on the center stand? Are you filling while on the center stand? The stock rear air shock should be checked and adjusted with the rear wheel off the ground. The max pressure for the rear shock is 58psi (again, on the center stand with the rear tire off the ground)....

Re: Battery amp 21 vs 20?

not an issue. Just curious, why a gel over AGM? AGM is a better battery for a motorcycle by most standards (lighter, easier to charge, better for fast, high amp discharge (ie starting the bike), wider operating temp). Gel batteries tend to be best for deep cycle/secondary batteries, not a starting b...

I have a '94 also, and would have no qualms about a 2000 mile trip today. Tires need to go NOW. 9 year old tires are an accident waiting to happen, regardless of how they look. Elite 4 are kind of the go to tire now days (it is what I have on mine because that is what it came with, but I will be goi...

Your Silverwing is still a Wing (and while Goldwings are preferred, it is not required).
Same for you on your bike, nothing about that either way. Most are the bike itself since many are solo riders.

never seen or heard of a centerstand that does that, but there are kits out there that are "outriggers", a set of small wheels that go up and down as needed.

LegUp is one I have heard of, but no personal experience with.
There are others out there as well.

Re: Breather box

It goes to the pair valve which is an emissions thing having to do with the intake air shot air system.

Not sure of all the details of how it works though.

I was having a heck of a time installing mine till I used some long hose pliers (the middle size one) from this kit from Harbor Freight

Re: Should I replace all the relays

I bought a few relays from the site, my plan is next time I have access to the relays I will replace #3 for sure, and maybe 2 and 8 (keeping the old ones as spares on the bike), and while in there, check all the other terminals for corrosion and apply some di-electric grease. I did similar when I go...
