Re: what to do with GL1800
I agree, electrically the bike is trash. Most mechanicals and cosmetics are worth something to the right person. If you are not able/willing to part it out yourself, post up on Craigslist or Facebook as a parts bike. Start high and take what you can. You may be able to find someone that would want t...

It's not just Honda, it's pretty much ALL vehicle manufacturers today. At least it is not like Volvo in the 80's and Mercedes in the 90's making a biodegradable wiring harness, with a life of 10-15 years before the insulation starts to degrade. Many vehicles from that timeframe are unusable due to ...

Re: Use of K&N air filter in Goldwings
... And, with the K&N you need to remove the sealing o-rings around the air filter box and lid. That is so the K&N filter will fit properly. The trouble with that is those o-rings get lost and if you ever want to go back to the OEM, you have to find new o-rings. The o-rings are not availabl...

I'm cheap, I am using the Peak Asian Blue coolant.
Technically the same stuff as Honda, and better choice than generic green coolant.

Re: Cheap oil for a crankcase flush??
Oops, I brain farted, you have a 1200, I was not paying attention, I was thinking 1500. Oil is still fine, but you need a cartridge filter, if looking for something from Walmart, a Fram CH6009 will work just fine. Multiple options on Amazon , local parts stores should have something that works as we...

Never used one like that one, I have one of the red Harbor Freight ones, works well enough for me. https://www.harborfreight.com/bead-breaker-92961.html It is on clearance now, so may not be available around you. image_25063.jpg Looks like it would work a little better than what I have since it will...

Re: Where to spray starter fluid?
The air intake is just behind the little cover on the left of the shelter. intake 2.JPG But getting starting fluid from there all the way through the tubing and around past the filter, not sure how well it would work. intake.JPG I guess you could always give it a try, sometimes it atomizes enough to...

Re: Recommendation for battery tender for 2003 GL1800
I have 2 Battery Tender Jr for my bikes. Price has gone up on them recently, but you can still find them on sale for ~$25 sometimes. At their current price ( $39 on Amazon ), I would just go ahead and get the Battery Tender Jr for lead and Lithium for only a dollar more , that way you are future pro...

You'll find getting over 25K miles on your Rear tire to Front setup. Past (golly's lost count) dozen? of R to F tires I averaged just short of 35K. Only one's I didn't get that fantastic mileage were cupping issues. But since I went with an extra ounce or 2 of balancing beads that hasn't happened. ...

Buy a jug of Supertech 15w-40 diesel engine oil. <$15.
If you need a filter, grab a supertech 7317/6607/9688 filter for ~$3.
I have used Supertech 15w-40 on several bikes, and have it in my GL1500 right now.

Re: Shift shaft rocking, not rotating. Ideas?
I did not need a new bolt when I installed my shift pivot, but I did need a new spacer, a 10mm deep socket was the right length, so I did not have to cut the spacer than came with the heel toe/floorboard kit.

The rounded part goes to the master, flat side goes into the brass bushing.
You also need to get the lip of the rubber cover into the grove on the pin.

Re: How to install the GL1500 shifter brace
Some of the install horror stories make me cringe. Usually the only issues are incorrectly clocked levers, and out of line engine guard flats. I have a new design which would have eliminated the bind issue, but China stopped that when they cloned the kit. When the 800 I have left are gone, thats it...

Re: 1988 GW 1500 Tires
Tires are a sticky subject (ha ha, pun intended). Everyone has their opinions and experiences. Dunlop Elite 4 and Michelin Commander III are highly rated here and with other review sites, but there are other tires that many have had good luck with as well (Bridgestone and Continental come to mind, b...

Re: 1988 GW 1500 Tires
No need to settle for what they have in stock. Get what the recommended size is. If they cant get it, then order in online. They are wanting to sell you a tire that is shorter and narrower than stock. This will raise your engine RPM's, reducing your fuel economy, and give you a slightly smaller cont...

Tire wear and low speed wobble with new tire...
So I replaced my front tire on my '94 GL1500 a few weeks ago. Took off a Dunlop Elite 4 that was worn evenly, replaced it with a Kenda K671 (it is a rear tire, but correct 130/70/18 size). I used 2 oz of balance beads when installing it. Made sure I had the yellow dot on the tire lined up with the v...

Re: Windshield replacement
I have a Madstad light tinted shield on my GL1500 (wanted a medium, but they did not have any at the time, and did not want dark). I have no issues with reflections, but my windshield is mounted low enough that I do not look through it, just over it (which is how Madstad is designed). I really don't...

It may not be bad if you have normal vision. But I'd need reading glasses to see that tiny display. And if I was wearing reading glasses, I wouldn't be able to see where I was going. I flushed it out and put new fluid in 4 or 5 years ago. That was the last time it was bled out. How often is it recommended to change the fluid? I rebuilt the clutch slave cylinder and flushed that out and replaced the fluid over the weekend, but I haven't done anything with brakes lately. Minimum ...
