Re: squishy sound while bleeding the clutch

Hi Greg, Seems that this millimeter difference in shifter linkage position made a difference. It could be also something else, that I’ll monitor, but after another service manual reading and a little playing with it I finished the job. First short ride two hours ago. That’s F-16 after VT1100 (my oth...

Re: squishy sound while bleeding the clutch

it is ingeniously!! I made a mark how to put linkage back, but still installed it in the way it hit the engine. Had to reinstall it . Now it shift, but I can shift the gears without even pulling the clutch. That probably explains the smoke. Need to figure how to fix the catch without taking the engi...

Re: squishy sound while bleeding the clutch

1,2,3 - checked. Level is OK. 4 - I've replaced alternator bearing. During that engine was removed and rear crankcase with clutch removed as well. Total used oil after disassembling is about 4.9 Qt. this is what service manual says. Could it be that smoke is because oil is not circulated through the...

Triple checked oil level - it is full. Still smoking
In 'N' rear wheel is not moving
All other - it does
Shifting gears seems to be easier now N through OD and back, but still no 1st

Re: squishy sound while bleeding the clutch

Thanks Greg, Assuming that sucking sound might be normal, I'm worried about other two things. 1. Shifting. This morning, after adding about a quart of oil (the stick was dry) and getting the engine running, it looks like I'm able to switch N-2-3-4-5 and back, but it is not smooth and requires some p...

squishy sound while bleeding the clutch

I'm absolutely exhausted after spending evening and three bottles of DOR4 while bleeding the clutch. There is no bubbles coming out of bleeding valve but clutch makes squishy/swampy/annoying sounds https://photos.app.goo.gl/8Hj8bt5VrHKtA7Z3A How can I get rid from that? As a side note, I can't...

Re: Reverse shift arm installation question

Hi Greg, Many thanks for the details. While working on assembling shifter shaft I figured that the only way to engage reverse gears will be if the arm will move up and remember I saw that it will be possible only if part'x' will be in position 2. Knowing, that reverse only can be engaged in neutral,...

Reverse shift arm installation question

It is not clear what should be position of shift drum lock arm during the assembly. Should it be '1' or '2' position (see the picture). If it is '2', how do I rotate 'partX'? Is it done by switching the gears? If yes, should it be neutral? 1172B550-A98B-4609-888D-2FC4B6514A54.png I already installed...

Re: Replacing alternator. Chain reaction?

An eBay alternator caused this. Here is more of the story. See post #12. https://goldwingdocs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=59523 Warning to all, only use OEM alternators, starters, and starter relays on 5th gen GoldWings. Actually, I bought it directly from "DB Electrical", but point...

Replacing alternator. Chain reaction?

Based on the listing from here there is a new alternator model 31100-MCA-S41, instead of the original one - 31100-MCA-A61. Does it require new "Gear Assy, Alternator Driven (27T)" part 17 from here https://www.mrcycles.com/oemparts/a/hon/5053ed6ff870021c54be470d/primary-drive-gear or it is...

Crankcase removed. Here is the other side and the bearing. And there is small peace of the metal from damaged bearing, another "surprise"

Re: Rear crankcase separation method

I split it. Using piece of wood and hitting it with rubber mallet does the trick. Just takes a time and do it without hysteria - slow and steady - around the perimeter of the case.

Rear crankcase separation method

What is a safe method to split/remove rear crankcase from the engine? It sits pretty well on the gasket and I suppose using hammer is not a way to go. All fasteners have been removed.

Re: Pliers for removing clamps on fuel return line

Unfortunately, they didn't work well for me. Maybe because the clamps were too old their ends just bent and didn't really released the clamps.

I'm thinking about making my own clamps - by following this guide

instead of spending 20$ on three clamps.

Re: Going to remove the engine. Looking for encourage/advise

So, did DB clamp their shaft in a vice and squish the splines or is it machined off center? That’s some messed up stuff right there! I believe it is off center. The verdict - OEM is a must and no DB in my life. 1mm off center- few thousand out of the pocket. To anyone, who thinks about aftermarket ...

Will be disconnected startor and removing it from the frame in the next few days. By the way, alternator is not OEM but DB Electric, th...
