Re: Neutral Light Won't TURN OFF!

OK back from a 2800 mile ride, carefully watched all the lights, tried to find other problems that may be tied to my light staying on. I only noticed 2 things: 1.) Dash lights "breathe" a little bit... pulse brighter a touch.. especially the neutral light. Only really noticeable at night. ...

Re: Replacement Clutch Hose - How long?

The update was I used Randakk's line, it was longer than needed to be matching routing of stock hose (including removing the solid pipe parts). My advice is mock it up with a string and order one special.

Re: Neutral Light Won't TURN OFF!

Khspe2- All leads from neutral switch ground when they should and not when they shouldn’t. The light actually stays on when I remove that connector because it is grounding out farther upstream. The bike and I are actually In Tennessee right now, Chattanooga, headed for deals gap in another day. Ever...

Re: Neutral Light Won't TURN OFF!

CT- Its funny you mention the other systems. when this problem started my left signal flashed very quickly during the ride home, as if one light on that side was out, but only did it once. I'll test all those pins and check all the systems. I have a long ride planned for the next few days so it may ...

Re: Neutral Light Won't TURN OFF!

When I disconnect the ECU and run a multimeter from the Lt Grn/Red wire on the harness side of the ECU to ground I get continuity when in neutral and no continuity when I am in gear, sidestand up or down. Does this confirm a problem with the ecu??? I didn't try pulling the pin the connector to the E...

Re: Neutral Light Won't TURN OFF!

CT1500 - Yes, gearshift sensor disconnected---> C59 disconnected, C32 disconnected. Lt Grn / Red wire between C59-C32 gets GROUND only when sidestand up. That Lt Grn/Red wire looks to run between C59 and C32, but also within that connection goes to ECU. Mark thinks reverse circuitry playing a role.....

Re: Neutral Light Won't TURN OFF!

Mark - Those lines pass throught C32 on their way to the reverse control module. I'm still getting the ground when C32 is completely disconnected. It seems like that part of the diagram is isolated (because C32 is unplugged), no? I have a trip planned in a couple days I may have to fix this issue wi...

Re: Neutral Light Won't TURN OFF!

Here is my sad and pathetic update: I was unable to determine why the light stays on. For those of you following along at home, from wiring diagram link a few posts back (Lights and Switches 94 ASP), Pulling the light green / red wire from the front side of the Big C32 red connector caused the neutr...

Re: Neutral Light Won't TURN OFF!

CT: I see that neutral wire splice you are talking about. I guess you really need to look at all the wiring diagrams as they seem to include/exclude different components based on the name of the drawing. Wow the colored version is FOR SURE way easier to read. I printed them off at work in color at 1...

Re: Neutral Light Won't TURN OFF!

I don't think it can be the light green red wire going to pin 8 on the reverse control unit because the light went out when I removed the front side light green/red from C32. Would love to rule out pin 10 green white because my manual tells me that reverse control unit is "below rear of trunk&q...

Re: Neutral Light Won't TURN OFF!

I removed the light green / red wire from the front of C32 (red 22p connector under seat) and neutral light went off, even in neutral. If I understand this correctly that means that there is NOT a short to ground from C32 all the way back to the Neutral light... Based on the wiring diagram linked a ...

Re: The Laws of Probability

That's true, but the simple resistance test can isolate which leg of the ignition system has the problem... at least for plug boot resistor/wire/coils.

If sporadic it may not show up, maybe a loose connection.

Re: TO BLING OR NOT TO BLING !! "THAT IS THE BURNING QUESTION " ??

My bike came with a lot of chrome on it. There was a pile of receipts with the paperwork for all that chrome totalling over 2 grand. I would never do it personally, but I do think it was "tasteful" and I have received a ton of compliments on the bike. There is also some pin striping that w...

Re: The Laws of Probability

Hi Bohdan, Your profile says you have a gl1000 but this is posted in the gl1500 forum, maybe a misspost? If not... Do you have factory service manual for the bike? There is a procedure in there under the coil section where you test sparkplug boot to sparkplug boot, through the coil, with ohm meter, ...

Re: Engine oil getting into final drive?

I don't think it is possible. Drive shaft between output shaft and final drive, no way oil migrates all the way down there and past a couple seals without motor running dry and/or final drive fluid leaking out. There is a cap at top of final drive that lets it breath as it heats and cools... maybe y...

Re: Neutral Light Won't TURN OFF!

Mr. Mark, Some interesting results here. Bike functioned as you guessed.... In gear, sidestand up, no clutch, click starter rear wheel starts to turn. In gear, sidestand down, no clutch, click starter nothing. The interesting thing was that the neutral light works as it should with the sidestand down!

Re: Neutral Light Won't TURN OFF!

DW I'm sipping on some myself! Got a couple hours this morning to before we hit the road for the day hopefully it is something dumb... Neutral Light Won't TURN OFF!

Everyone seems to have a problem where the neutral light won't turn on. Well mine won't shut off! It stays lit in every gear. It gets a touch brighter when actually in neutral. Maybe a bad ground somewhere? I had just finished installing the shifter brace and went for a ride. After a few miles I wen...
