Re: Dual or single piston???

a trick I figured out to get the pistons unstuck on my front calipers was to diss-connect the rear caliper and hook the front up to the hose- takes a little bit and is messy but with a little effort you can pump them out-when one gets ahead of the other just use a C-clamp to stop that piston and let...

Re: Gauge Cluster Removal

I guess you are doing it with the fairing on- I did twice recently- after removing the windshield I was able to get it off and taking the weighted cover off the connection box below and releasing two big connectors and three small ones it's not too difficult to get out. the problem I had was getting...

Re: Darkside swap-size

Sounds like a good tire to go with.I am glad I took the time to go ahead and pull the wheel-cleaned a nasty looking gear drive on the outside- probably from the rear shock boot torn and there was some oil from it I expect leaked on everything even though the air still stays in them and they function...

Re: Darkside swap-size

OK that sounds like way more expense and trouble than I'd want to go to just to mount a car tire. I'll just stick with the MC tires and move on.

Darkside swap-size

OK at the risk of being shunned from the list. I did some searching but probably not in the right spot. what size tire fits best and is working on an 82 Interstate? when going to a car tire? and what particular tire do most folks like?. That will probably open a can of worms

Re: removing the rear wheel

yes I had forgot how much had to be removed to get it out but by following all the guidelines it did come out. I found once I he the gear drive out the biggest thing was getting it to slide out while it drags against the braces to the bag mounting. I laid a 2x6 on the floor against the tire and kick...

Re: removing the rear wheel

OK thanks- I think I started looking at that one and thought there had to be some simpler way than going to the depth of removing the rear drive and the brake disc to get to the spline drive. but I guess it is time to bite the bullet and follw the complete sequence.thanks for the guidance. I'm tempt...

removing the rear wheel

I want to remove the rear wheel and check the splines on the drive. this is on the 82 Interstate.is it possible while it's sitting on the centerstand? this one has all the chrome stuff on the back attached to the bag cage. I've seen a video showing the back fender lower section being unbolted but I'...

leaking rear drive

I notice after mine sat a couple weeks I have enough oil leaking out of the rear drive that it has run down onto the wheel and a little on the sidewall of the tire to the floor.I drained it about a month ago and put a little clean deisel in the gearbox and let it drain out the drain plug. with it st...

Re: Starter Clutch Replacement

this thead is sure interesting. Having recently got mine going after it had been stored for 8-9 years and I have not ridden another Goldwing of the same years I don't have anything to compare the performance to. but I was scrolling through posts and reading the link about problems with timing and th...

Re: GL1100 not turning over

once in a while a starter will get locked in the ring gear on a vehicle. I'm pretty sure it's possible on the wing. you can put it in gear-preferably high and roll it while letting off the clutch to see that the engine rolls and if it's locked it should drop out.

Replacement mirrors

Well I know I'm posting too often-but thought I had everything fixed till today's ride. when the right side fairing mounted mirror hit the pavement. seems the tension screw pulled out of the mirror arm. anyway I removed the high low switch off the left handlebar earlier and there is a threaded hole ...

got the gages working.

it took me a few hours longer than I thought it should to replace the voltage reducer since I had to remove the instrument cluster and open it up and even then the wiring is so packed in there it's a struggle to get it backtogether even after removing the old one. but the temp and gas gages work lik...

part location

I am in hopes my new voltage reducer will be here when I get back from Amarillo - gotta take wife in for checkup. seems like something always needs maintenance. I don't know if I ever got a clear answer as to exactly where the reducer is located on an 82 interstate.and if the original looks about li...

Re: pegs

that looks like it will get your legs out in the wind good.mine doesn't have that vertical loop bar. it did have a pair of galvanised bars that clamped between the two horizontal bars but it was really ugly and had a set of home made pegs I did not like at all still I guess funcional but I took them...

pegs

I know I have been posting too much, but just wondering what might work well as forward foot pegs attached to the crash bars.the factory pegs seem to do fairly good to a point but on a hot day with the heat coming up from the false tank it would be nice to place the feet forward and not be hugging t...

fair enough. I just did not look close as usual getting in a hurry. I apparently had seen the shipping price shown and thought that was the purchase price. I'm sure it's worth it if it fixes my intermittent gage issue

something's not right.

I just went to the site where the voltage regulators are advertised and ordered a type C regulator and when I paid out I put in my card info and it wanted 7$ plus for shipping plust the seven plus for the regulator. I thought that was a little much but when I completed the sale it popped up that the...
