the classifieds

has anyone tried to advertise on the classifieds lately? it looked like now there is some thing you have to open and download first and with all the computer crooks around these days I'm wondering if that's normal or it's a false site. I used it last year and it worked without that.best I remember I...

fixed the wobble.

Well I finally got the time to get the rear wheel off my 98 gold wing and replaced the rear tire with the original and the wobble is gone. so I guess the tire was the culprit. now that I have replaced the timing belts, battery, front tire, brake pads, fixed some lights and repaired some cracks I guess i...

Re: rear wheel rubber insert

OK again great info. I had to register to view that article on the shock bushings but definitely that could be my problem. though I am in the proccess of re-torqueing the head bearings.I will definitely pursue getting new bushings. I did replace the left shock and I had to pres the bushing out of my...

rear wheel rubber insert

I am still searching for the cause of my 98 doing the wobble at 70 mph and above. I plan to remove the rear wheel again to inspect everything as I have alread raised and checked the tracking of the tires and wheels and found no wobble in them while rotating. one thing I noticed when I had it off bef...

steering head bearing torque

OK I'm still trying to sort out the ride on the 98 wing I put those Shinko 890 radials on. and rode another 50 miles today in moderate wind and speeds. it still is really smooth up to about 68 mph on the spedometer- I've never verified the spedo but been told most hondas tend to be slower than indic...

Re: handling

well these are the 890 journeys and after reading several reviews from gold wing riders I think I just need to get used to them. they were generally very happy with theirs.

Re: handling

Well I hope putting radials on it was not the wrong thing to do. I will play with lower pressures next time it warms up enough to ride. that could make some difference I expect. It may be that I need to get used to it. and dial in the tire pressure. I had them close to the max. and that may not be n...

I recently replaced the tires on my 98 with new shinko radials. the front tire that was on it was a well worn 130/70-18 Dunlop E-3. the Shinkos are very smooth riding and the heavier grade radials . I do notice it's much easier to turn, almost to the point of feeling wobbly at times.I expect the old...

Re: trunk side marker lights

I did stop in at an autozone yesterday and they did have two wattage versions in stock-I bouight the #73 ones having a little lower wattage.hoping they won't create quite as much heat and if I can pick the remains of the broken bulb out of the one socket I'll get the light back to full capacity. tha...

Re: trunk side marker lights

OK thanks- actually I only need one , or two if I manage to salvage the one socket the bulb had broke off in. but I would doubt any automotive store stocks them. but it won't hurt to check. and I'm going to Amarillo tomorrow. I'll call the cycle shops and ask.

trunk side marker lights

well after noticing 2 of the three bulbs on my trunk side lights are out I removed the light and find one had become out of the housing and melted into the plastic and broken . they are very small push in bulbs and if I searched right seems they aren't even factory but an after market light that rep...

Re: replacement rear shocks

Well I finally heard back from the seller of the air shocks I saw on ebay but he wasn't very helpful. he just said please check the size chart and spring rate on the add, I did not feel at all confident that they would work out. I had previously ordered a used one from ebay and it had come in with d...

Re: replacement rear shocks

Thanks for that tip- what I'm basically trying to do with this one is put this bike back into useable condition as cheaply as possible.at 73 I probably won't be riding a lot but I want to to be controllable and able to handle decently. I probably won't put 3,000 miles a year and don't try to lay it ...

replacement rear shocks

Well I see from previous posts that I'm sure not alone in trying to find alternatives to the factory shocks. I ordered a used left one from ebay and when it came in it was basically junk. luckily the seller refunded my money. and as others seem to be thinking I'd rather just replace both with a set ...

Re: rear axle spacers

OK going back to the information I see there are three O-rings that need to be in place in the final drive, the driven flange and the wheel hub. I'm sure there was none on either the driven flange or the wheel hub so I need to come back off with it and get them all in place. where is the quickest pla...

rear axle spacers

Well I took the rear wheel off last week on my 98 wing. and got in some tires and had them mounted- went back with the rear wheel today and while I'm pretty sure I have everything back correct, I notice the large diameter of the axle shoulder ends up being almost 1/4" inside the left swing arm ...

Re: left shock

Thanks again for the help and Merry Christmas to all. I contacted that seller about the condition as well as a couple others advertising them. one even mentioned he had one that I assume he was parting out that is pearl white. I'm hoping he has the piece that fastens on the back edge of the fairing ...

Re: left shock

Ok thanks- and since it's been leaking fluid I'm wondering if that might be the reason the bike would tend to lope- I'd call it on the highway when cruising and the pavement had seams in it unless the air was really up high on the suspension. I'm thinking the fluid may be mostly leaked out and causi...

left shock

OK my 98 was a challenge but I finally with the help of a friend and some major work got both mufflers lowered and removed the wheel. one thing I noticed that I didn't realize is only the right shock is an air shock-the left side is a spring shock which has leahed oil from it. is that a factory setup?

decent tires

Well it seems like the wing continues to want me to spend money. I put a Shinko on my 1100 wing last summer and I was satisfied with it. now the 98 1500 needs tires.it has dunlop E-3's on it now but they're old and worn so while the wheels are off I'll spend the money I guess.- I see dunlop 404's fo...

Re: Crack repair

I did some repair on my 82 1100 but didn't find the right glue -it was a multi purpose that was supposed to include abs. I mixed some acetone with it and while it did set up I wasn't happy with it. I'll look for the right stuff.

Crack repair

Well not being able to inspect my 98 as good as I would have liked before buying it I'm now finding cracks in my saddle bag as well as front fender.I have things stripped quite a bit as I'm replacing the brake pads tires timing belts and such. are there any advances in a quality product that will ac...
