Re: Point setting...... I know it's been covered..

Thanks Ron. Yeah I'd worked out the rotation for timing part. I'd had points set by a bike dealership when I bought it, was assuming they were right, so was looking else where for the problem... Condensor, carbs, coils etc etc. Live and learn, glad I understand the principles involved now. It's like...

Steering lock..... Missing key.

Hi guys.
My 76 GL is running like a dream.
Even rewarded it with a wash! Lol.

But I've never had a key for the steering lock.
As far as I know the lock still works, but can I get a replacement key or do I have to replace the entire thing.?
How do I replace it and where do I get one?
Thanks.

Re: Point setting...... I know it's been covered..

Thanks for reply Max. Well I've done it, learnt all about points and timings properly... It was way out! It had been adjusted by bike dealer when I bought it, but it still started and ran like crap. Honesty would only start in warm dry days and could flatten a battery trying. I did a trial start (co...

Point setting...... I know it's been covered..

I know it's been covered a thousand times but I'm confused. I understand what I'm meant to do. But...... I cannot see any tiny mark on the timing lobe that you meant to see and set against. And for the life of me, I cannot see how you set the gap for the left hand (as you look at them) points. It's ...

Re: 1976...... Hydraulic clutch upgrade?

Thanks for reply.
How about some sort of lever extender.... Hand or clutch end?
It just makes it miserable, dreading changing gear! 😆

1976...... Hydraulic clutch upgrade?

Hi Guys.
Got my GL1000 on the road last summer.
Love it.
But after 3 or 4 hours my left forearm is in agony.
Is there any upgrade to lighten the clutch or upgrade to hydraulic kit?
Thanks.

You'll have to tell me what we are looking at here. A 1500 GW engine, but what about the rest?

Re: Off-roading a Goldwing.....

I worry about losing the front end on steep downhill switchbacks - but I've been lucky so far. Lone Butte 8.jpg That is a big lump off tarmac. I often wonder what mine would look and handle like with alittle more aggressive tyres. Scrambler type, but previous owner put brand new wheels an...

Re: Burning oil.

Thanks for replies. Okay only noticeable on start up smokes from right (throttle side) exhaust for about 2 minutes. I only have a side stand. Once warm it looks fine but I know I'm burning oil because after every 100miles I'm having to top up oil. (No drips or mixing) Maybe 150/200ml. per 100 miles....

Burning oil.

Hi. Loving my 76' GL. But...... I'm burning oil. But only on one side (right side) It is a low mileage engine (39k.miles) Compression is ok. I know it's righthand side because I have twin exhausts. Also looking at the mileage and being the right, I believe the bike has stood for many years on its si...

E10 petrol? Gasoline.

Well, in the UK we have finally switched from E5 to E10 petrol/gas. This means that the ethanol content of petrol has gone from 5% to 10%. It is also warned that many old vehicles will not run on E10. I just wondering if there's any experts who could tell me what is the actual problem? is it tank se...

Re: Wiring in a USB power source......

Yeah. Thought that could be an issue.
I've bought a USB port with a tiny on/off switch.
It doesn't say what fuse rating to use. But for phones and GPS, I'm thinking 3amp is plenty. ???

Yeah. I don't think they came with spare fuse slots. Thanks anyway.
I'm just run and fuse separate cable to battery I think.

Wiring in a USB power source......

Hi guys.
Loving my 76' GL1000.
I would like to to run my phone/GPS.
I've bought a simple eBay USB port, that I'm thinking of having in the false tank and just running a cable to the device.
But where is it recommended to wire the supply?
Anyone else done it?
Thanks in advance.

My awesome home build GL1000.
Bought as a non-runner.
It burps and farts and is shonky.... And I absolutely love it.....
