Re: Auxiliary lights

I put these on my 1500. Mounted them to the screw that held the front of the side marker on the fairing. I just left the small black trim piece off. I cut an aluminum spacer to give correct angle to point forward. (Fairing is angled there) I also wired them for yellow with lowbeams (extremely visibl...

Re: Mountable USB Ports Looked and Looked Now I need Help

I have these on my Goldwing. They are 18w each USB port. Although they are not handlebar mounted, they might work for you, IF they will put out the full 18w without being a Quick Charge device connected. I am not sure of the electronics on the inside and what it needs to "see" in order to ...

Re: Missing pixels!

If you buy one from Honda is the whole piece, circuit board etc. If I remember correctly its in the neighborhood of $800+. However there are some replacement screens that you can buy for about $100. BUT it MUST be the correct model number. There are a few different ones that will fit but not work or...

GL1500 Parts, pieces and accessories

All of the following were for an 98 gl1500SE, cleaning out the garage. I don't have the bike anymore and purchased an 1800. Make a reasonable offer plus shipping cost or pick up in Gilbert AZ 85233. I have a full seat and backrest in very good condition. Will post picks tomorrow. I also have the ant...

Re: Weird tire wear!

Particularly if you do a lot of in town riding left side tire ware becomes more apparent. Left turns from a stop are a lot longer and are typically taken faster, under more power (more tire ware) then right hand turns. You have to figure you are traveling 2x to 3x the distance and twice the speed es...

Re: Masking large areas for paint

A roll of removable vinyl (like what is used to make stickers or with a circut machine) would work for what you are talking about. Typically they are about 12" wide but you can get bigger or use a circut machine to cut your designs, you can layer them for various colors etc. If you are buying t...

Re: ABS light

Couple of thoughts: could be the battery or a bad ground on the bike. I would maybe check a few of the major ones. Also maybe a bit of a dirty sensor on the wheel, or a plug that needs to be reseated or has a bit of corrosion in it. any of the above could cause a slight loss of signal from the senso...

100% agree with the T6, John. Used it in my gl1500 and I use it in my VTX also.

It seems to me there are some issues but probably a relatively small percentage and the echo chamber of the internet makes it seem worse than it is.

The Works toilet bowl cleaner from the dollar store.... about the strongest nastiest stuff you can buy. Works wonders and does a good job of making soda bottles pop when you add a little foil in it.

Buying a GL1800

I am in the market for a used GL1800 guessing somewhere in the 2006 to 2012 range. Although maybe earlier if the right bike comes along. Is there any way to fairly quickly diagnose if it has a transmission issue - i.e. ghost shifting etc? Seems like it is not extremely prevalent but something to be ...

Anti Dive - and Fork springs Question

My 98 1500SE it has the anti dive on both forks. However it is only working when I use the brake pedal (so the left side is working?). When I only use the hand brake I can significantly bounce the front forks (when parked in the garage). Is there anything I should check or do? I was going to replace...

Totally understand being at an appartment. You can get that piece off in less than 30min with a philips screwdriver and whatever you need to take your seat off. Then stick everything back on without fastening everything (at least temporarily) so it doesnt look like it's being "worked on" a...

Re: Progressive 416 shocks no more -- Harley shocks? Car shocks?

I would not be surprised if you could find monroe shocks that will work. I know on the Honda VTX there are a number of people who use their air shocks to build a system. I "think" the use a shock listed for a Corvette. Definitally keep us updated. I would like to know for the future. Also ...

Quite some time ago I purchased a vacuum pump for bleeding brakes and I use that to get most of the old fluid out and then a rag or shop towel etc. For the $20 or so the vacuum pump has been invaluable for a variety of jobs.

Spark Plug Heat Range?

I am replacing the plugs in my 98 GL1500. I am going to go with the equivalent iridium. (I know the stock do work well) My question - Do I go with the colder plug or stick with the standard? I have done a lot of reading and besides sticking with the ngk not a lot of info about the heat range on the ...
