You can actually run it in either direction if you really want to, it will reverse flow if you do. The design is for the pickup to be the thicker tube with the grommet on it, and the output the thinner tube. Is the pump doweled to the case anywhere or does it just float on the shaft until it is tightened down?

That was my plan. I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask however. If the flow rate was too low, I wasn't going to bother testing it and would call it a loss. Thank you for your knowledge and quick responses. I thought I may be waiting a few weeks for someone to come along with that kind of detailed info.

You are the holy grail. That is exactly the info I was looking for. Any idea on the flow rate of the pump? You seem to be privy to the hard numbers.

I have a scavenge pump from supposedly a 1995-2003 GL1500. See attached picture. I want to use this pump to scavenge oil from the turbocharger on my car. I will make a shaft and mount for it.
