Re: 1983 aspencade REAR BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER

Sorry! What I meant is, does the foot brake operate the rear and also one of the front brake calipers?

If not, you can easily convert a GL1800 rear MC to work on an 1100. If the front and rear brakes are linked, then the 1800 will not work unless you de-link the brakes first.

I've been seeing a lot of this lately... check the ground wires for the coils first and make sure it's tight before going any further.

I took mine to the auto parts store and matched a freeze plug that pressure fit in the cross tube holes. Must be five years now.
The older years are getting harder to find, but they are out there.

Re: Pulling carbs but stuck

It's a lot easier to remove and reinstall without that secondary air system on the bottom of the carb. Plug the holes, re-route the vacuum lines and never look back.

Re: GL1100 exhaust on a GL1200

When I turned my 81 1100 into an 81 1200, I used the 1100 exhaust and it fit the 1200 motor in the 1100 frame .

Anyway, if you are using Sportster mufflers, you want 1996 to 2003 as they do not have a crossover tube hole to weld closed.

Re: tire size

165/80-R15. No modifications required if you don't mind using about 90 psi of air to seat the beads. If you want to seat the beads with a little less air, you can remove a hump on both sides of the rim to make it mount easier.

If it's not too much of a problem, could you confirm the tire size please? I've never seen that tire on the back of a 1200 before, but that interests me...

Thanks!!!

Re: Can I tow my GL 1200 in neutral?

With the engine not running the oil pump no pressure from the oil pump to the shaft bearings. There's some shafts that will still be spinning. And some spinning gears on a stationary shaft. And if I'm not mistaken, the transmission shafts are above the oil level in the sump. So no splash lube eithe...

Re: sound exhaust

Pre-2003 Sportster mufflers would be preferable as they do not have crossover tube holes that would need to be covered. What are you looking to do to the seat? Recover or replace? There are a lot of replacement covers on ebay or Saddlemen Seat Skins will do the trick.

If all you are doing is the belts, you won't need anything for the water pump unless you jump in a little deeper than necessary. Anything else... patience.

If the spark plug wires do not thread onto the coils, the coils are not original... someone swapped them out in the past.

You will need to wire it in from scratch. I used the black/white wire from the coil as a trigger wire to a new relay that I installed and wired the rest of the relay as needed and then ran wires out to the fuel pump as needed.

Re: heat shiled for 1984 Goldwing

Another option is to remove or modify the fairing lowers to allow more air into the motor. So the answer is to a) redirect the heated air away from your body, and b) wear more protective, heat-insulating clothing. The more air getting into the engine area will mean that the hot air has to go somewh...

Re: GL1200 darkside question

I have a Classic 165/80R-15 on the rear of my 87 Interstate. Before that, it was on the rear of my 81 1100 and before that, it was on the rear of my 84 Standard. I think I paid somewhere near $60 for the tire. All totaled, I have just over 11,000 miles on the tire right now and I will probably get a...

That appears like things may have been getting a little hot in there (I can't tell for sure from just that picture). If so, there is no amount of cleaning that will make it look new again. The pins can be removed from the block. They have a little barb that needs to be depressed and the wire and pin...

The devil is in the details... especially the return policy. If a buyer doesn't read it before buying something, they have no reason to complain about the outcome. CycleMax's report policy plainly states: "Unopened items in their original packages can be returned for a refund with no questions asked...
