Re: GL 1000 Single Carb Conversion

One more update. i found the electric choke to be unreliable. It either stayed on too long or not long enough. I disconnected power to the choke and then I used the old choke cable (which I hadn't removed) to create a manual choke. Works great now. The electric choke would open wide when it shut off...

Re: 79 GL1000 dropping cylinders...argh!!!

My 79 was doing the same, usually carb issues. I solved it by going with the single carb setup. It's cheap and easy and now all 4 carbs run at the same temperature.

Re: GL 1000 Single Carb Conversion

The old set up averaged 8L/100kmh or 29 mpg. The last two tanks averaged 7.6L /100km. A definite improvement. There are some flat spots when acceleration but it's a definite improvement. I highly recommend this. The carb is so simple as well. Also, if it needs replacing you can get one on Amazon for...

GL 1000 Single Carb Conversion

I just finished converting my 79 GL 1000 to a single carb. I couldn't be happier. The old carbs were constantly plugging up. It got to the point where I could remove them in under 10 minutes!. I went with the kit I found on Etsy and I learned a few things. First, the carb comes pre-jetted with a 127...

Single Carb Conversion

I've had so much practice removing these carbs that it takes me 20 minutes from start to bench! They've been rebuilt twice and torn apart countless times. It's always the same result, one cylinder fails to work. That's it! I'm going to buy the single carb conversion that I see on Etsy. Any thoughts ...

GL1000 Dynamic Timing

I installed a Dyna ignition on my 79 wing and did the normal (static) timing. Bike runs pretty good but I think it's still off a bit. Can't locate the clear timing adapter for the timing port and I saw Randaak's timing wheel. This apparently doesn't work on the 79. Any ideas on how I can use a timin...

Re: Fuel Filter question

Randaak is the guy to go to for all things Goldwing. I just put a new filter on for my first trip. Leaving Nova Scotia and heading for PEI. First major run with the old girl.

Re: Fuel Filter question

I went to Amazon and they have filters similar to the ones I use. I think a trip to the dealer is in order. Sometimes cheaping out isn't the way to go!

Re: Fuel Filter question

I'll check with my local dealer. Partzilla is pretty expensive shipping to Canada. Thanks for the advice

Fuel Filter question

My 79 GL1000 sat for 31 years before I found it. The fuel tank rusted away and a new used one was installed. I cleaned it the best I could but I rely on fuel filters to keep the carbs clean. I've been using small engine filters and they plug up quite quickly. I've been using larger filters (in line)...

Re: 1976 carb rebuild.

I purchased a rebuild kit from Amazon for around $100. Did the trick for my 79 GL1000. That said, carb rebuilds are more than just putting in new parts. A good hydrostatic bath for the carbs is also a good idea.

GL 1000 sticky throttle cables

I installed brand new cables on my wing during the winter. Bought them at the Honda dealer. After about 2000 miles, they got very sticky. I sprayed them with PB Blaster and that worked for a bit but the stickiness returned. I'm lubing them with fluid film and still sticking. Any suggestions?

GL 1000 oil recommendation

I recently spent the winter putting together a 79 GL 1000. Only 20000 miles on this old girl. All my other vehicles run on Mobil 1 full synthetic but the auto store seems to have only a few conventional types of oil. What are you guys using?

Re: 78 Goldwing won't start

I would start with the basics. I installed a fuel tank on my 79 and it's very tight. Very easy to pinch a wire. Check the two coil wires that lead to the coils. It's unlikely both have been disconnected. You can check spark but I'd simply spray ether or carb cleaner in the intake. If it fires, your ...

I've had similar problems. I purchased a new master cylinder for around $50 on Amazon and now my brakes work perfectly.
