Yes, bitter cold will cause coolant drips. A couple of my old semis with over a million miles on them would spot in winter. Minus 20 and outside.
This would be even after replaceing all hoses and clamps.
My 1996 1500 with 140 tho on it would drip during winter also in unheated garage.

Dummy me found that flow tube then stayed as it should and no bubbles. as one can see the top one is right side, other has rubber on it from belt. Wonder how long befor...

Oh, just put new coolant in, oil change, etc. Some good folks on here put an article on what I gotta do next. Go right back into all...

Accelerator pump leak
81 with 82 carbs that rebuilt. Had it running good, no leaks and smooth. Got all back together and had it warming up. Then the Accelerator pump started dripping gas. For those in the better know than I, could it be a sticking float in #3 carb? Or is it always a bad pump? Did flush a bunch of gunk ou...

Got em close now.
Reset 1 to 2 4 then set 4 to 3. As setting 4 to 3 all came to within 1 point. Will finesse after Easter dinner.
Something musta been way off. These came off the 82 and cleaned and rebuilt them. Then put them on the 81.

Sync of carbs
Rebuilt carbs. Went to sync them. Could get 1 3 ok. Could get 2 4 ok. Can not get left and right to balence. In fact after getting 2 and 4 together then 1 3 reading went very high. Switched hoses on gauges and still same readings. So know it not gauges. Sprayed either around carbs and no change in r...

Yes on overall gearing change. Kinda figured that before doing it. Should not be much dif than an 82 tho.
Many of my bikes have changed gearing. Dirtbikes especially. Harleys also. 06 steetbob went up 2 rear tooth to get off line quicker. Same on hot rod Sporty I built.

Re: 82 to 81 wheel swap
Got the 82 rear wheel on the 81. The drive gear is direct swap. Had to swap brake disk as 82 is thicker than 81. 82 has dual piston. Now have a three year old tire that is new on 81. Did not feel like spending the cash for a new tire when had one of diferent size and wheel. Now balence rebuilt carbs...

Re: 82 to 81 wheel swap
Never looked at tire size. Yes, the front wheel could be off an 83. Guess will dismount the wheels and see if they work. And also yes, the 82 has dual piston rear caliper. But guess I will see if it will work with 81 caliper. Bought the 82 for parts cheap. Also have a bunch more parts from a wrecked...

Redoing my 81 with vetter setup. Have an 82 been stealing parts off. Couple front brake calipers and a few elec parts. The 82 has good tires. Can I just swap wheels and tires or need to change tires? Front wheel on 82 is the one piece wheel.

Did the 1000 onto 1100 several times. Run ok.
Had several wrecked 1000s, kid would buy a non or poor running 1100 for 200 bucks. Put 1000 carbs on and sell 1100 for 900 bucks. One we put the 1000 stator on 1100.

Have noticed these 1100s may be hard to start when it chilly out. All fall this 83 aspy I picked up started easy. Then temps got down into 30s. Chock it to start and hard to keep running for 30 seconds or so. The 81 1100 that is curently getting resurected is also needing alot of chock to get runnin...

Re: Darksiding: Car Tire on your motorcycle (VIDEO)
After first tire on an 1800 wore out at less than 7000 miles, went to a car tire. Many of those miles were pulling trailer two up. Coulda been part of quick wear. Yes, presure kept very close to 40. Do not recomend it for all. The person that bought that 1800 knew it had a car on it. He scraps pegs ...

However, if she woulda added:
Honey, you work on that old wing all the time. You need to get rid of it. Trade it for a new one that has better storage for that coast to coast trip I wanna do.
Then she would be a keeper.

Re: Used vetter fairing
My terminology may not be correct. Always called that material fiberglass. Bet it is hard plastic. The lower front mounting location has been repaired. Like they loosened rear mounts then flipoed it up. It works but would like to have it nicer without alot of work. Thanks all. Will probly pick it up...

The 1100 I am refurbishing has a vetter mounted now. The mount fiberglass has been sloppily repaired. Found another vetter faring in good shape.(not all busted up). Think this came off a Yamaha. Are most vetters mounting and spacing the same? My steel mounts to frame are good. The fiberglass is ques...

Re: head gasket done but one more question
Did you "burp it"?
At least that is what I always called it. Fill radiator, leave cap off or loose, run engine till thermostat opens, refill, then cap and put what overflow tank needs in.
Overflow tank should not be filled to cap. Should be lines on it for coldfill and hotfill.

Re: 1980 GL1100 Fork exchangeability and upgrade
Get new progressive fork springs. Then most do not even add air. Saber cycle outa Kansas City has them. After time stock springs will lose the resistance. Also you may want to try some heavier fork oil fluid instead of atf that factory calls for. We would do that on motocross bikes according to air ...
