Re: Ham radio licensees?

I don't have the OEM radio/CB or ANY OEM electronics... all custom made by me for me... 200 Watt amp, custom speakers in the fairing with a tricked out radio, 7 band parametric EQ, and a 600 watt subwoofer under the trunk.. HAM radio only and the SENA SMH-10 in my helmet now connects to the PRYMEBLU...

Re: Ham radio licensees?

Hey, Just be careful with the radio you try to hook up to the SENA... I've been battling with them for a while... it WON'T work with newer style radios... it DOES work great with older analog radios (Kenwood TH f6a, Wouxoun KG UV1D1P, Icom 2AT, FT-470, etc) that don't have PTT specifics... my new DM...

Re: Ham radio licensees?

The ANTENNA is a RADIALESS design DC grounded type. It DOES NOT REQUIRE a growing to work. Adding a frame ground as a counterpoise DOES NOT affect the antenna's performance. It works just as well mounted to a slab of fiberglass or through the metal trunk/roof of your car.... It could be mounted in y...

Re: Ham radio licensees?

Nope, coax shield is grounded to the frame of the bike... coax length is about six or seven feet...

Antenna works just as well as without the shield being grounded to motorcycle frame as it was on fiberglass of boat... just the coax connected to the mount ungrounded..

http://www.diamond-ant.co.jp/pdf/nr/nr770h.pdf 3.0 dB on 2M and 5.0 db on 70 cm It works great!! (ignore the first page of the pdf file, it's in Japanese... second page has english) No radials/ground plane required to achieve effective radiation. 3.75dB of gain is the equivalent of doubling your po...

Re: Ham radio licensees?

I forgot to mention that the main reason to use a HT is that you don't want to expose yourself or your passenger to RF radiation in excess of approved exposure limits... A mobile rig (running 10 or more watts) into a mobile antenna that close to a person isn't too good... 5 watts into a 4dBi antenna...

Re: OH MY!!! BELEIVE IT

Found a 4 channel unit on eBay (for anyone else who might be interested) comes with four type K thermocouples and enough lead on them to put unit on shelter and run them out to where ever you want on the engine... a dab of epoxy on the spot where you want to place the thermocouple, and voila! instan...

One of these days I'm gonna take my 4 channel Thermocouple Thermometer and put thermocouples all over my engine... oil filter, lower radiator hose, bottom of the block, and top of the block.... then I can ride in sub zero temps and see what the actual temps are at those four places.... yeah.... mayb...

Re: OH MY!!! BELEIVE IT

I always had a theory about engines in extreme cold weather.... the near or sub zero temp of the air passing through the radiator super cools the antifreeze to near freezing temps and the resulting "super cooled" antifreeze entering the engine below the thermostat causes a "super cooling" affect of ...

@Sally, gonna be in Saranac Lake at end of January... only 5 hours NE of you.... should be about -16 degrees when we go there.... that's TOO cold for my wing... (once rode about 90 miles in +8 degree weather) even putting cardboard in front of the radiator at that temp won't help it get to operating...

Re: Hooking up a mp3 player to a Clarion Type II radio

Radios don't draw too much power... 25 watt stock radios about 3 amps... 200 watt fairing mounted amplifiers about 10 amps... 600 Watt Sub Woofers (on my bike) ... about 25 amps....

So, stock radios don't draw much power at all...

Re: 1981 Fuel Pump REBUILD???

The posting I referred to didn't mention the use of a lathe and drilling out ball bearings... If I remember it correctly it just involved grinding off the head of the diaphragm plunger shaft and replacing the diaphragm material after you drilled and tapped the shaft for a screw rather than the rivet...
