Re: Dead Wing

Well, I have finally been able to get back to diagnosing my issue with my Dead Wing. You would think working from home would lead to more free time, but for me it has been the opposite. After checking all the relays, solenoids, fuses, grounds, wiring and even the D blocks, I came back to the battery...

Re: Dead Wing

Maybe this won't help, but yrs ago my 88 gl1500 started acting up. Things started disappearing on my dash, music quit etc. Then it would just die right there. Right in a left turn lane once. I tried restarting but nothing. Out of desperation because of where I was stuck i kept trying and it fired a...

Re: Dead Wing

I had the same problem when I had my 1988 GL1500 many years ago. Got off the highway to take a break, when I got back on and pressed the start button all I got was a click, after that nothing. There was time that YUASA had a bunch of bad batteries. One of the lead plates inside the battery case wou...

Re: Dead Wing

If your battery cables are tight, there are 2 orange ground distribution blocks on the 1500s that could have burnt pins and loss of ground to circuits. There is one on each side of the bike, wrapped with electrical tape in the harness, against the frame about knee level as you sit on the bike. I ha...

Re: '93 Wing

I have checked all of the ground connections even removing some of the faring and checking and taking apart and retightening the two main ground connections (1) on the engine and (1) on the frame, still nothing. I figured out that there are actually 2 Starter relays I performed a test to see if it w...

Re: Dead Wing

I didn't think a bad relay could possibly cause this kind of issue either, but thought I would rely on the experience of other 'wing owners. The Relay failed in my first continuity test, but I conducted it again later and found that there was continuity. To test it I connected jumper wires to the 2 ...

Dead Wing

Went to start my 1500, turned the key on and everything was good, lights came on then I hit the starter button and it clicked and everything went dead. The Battery is fully charged, the main fuse link is good. I have removed the battery and battery box and checked the wiring to see if there is a bre...

Re: Replacement Alternator

So, I committed to the LActrical 90 amp for $127.00 with shipping. Ordered it on Monday received in today, Wednesday; that is what you call service! Waiting on the rubber dampers to arrive so I can install this bad boy. Thanks for everyone's help.

Replacement Alternator

So, I have to replace my alternator and was wondering if anyone on here has used DB Electrical alternators? They are manufactured in Kingsport, TN, but there is only one review online. It is certainly a much better price than I have found on other sights ($100.00 vs. 257.00 +). Price doesn't necessa...

Re: 1500 Dead on the Road

Good Morning Wing Riders, So here is an update: I fully charged the battery and re-installed it on the bike and what do you know, it fired up immediately. So my next step will be to do some testing (using my Clymer manual) just to be sure, but it would appear that is the problem. I will let you know...

Re: 1500 Dead on the Road

Thanks Bluewater, I will definitely explore any and all suggestions. I am charging the battery as I write this, however, the fact that I attempted to jump start (I know it can damage the electrical, but when stranded everything is on the table), the bike and still got the same result, leads me to be...

Re: 1500 Dead on the Road

Hey Curtm, I assume by your final statement that you have experienced an alternator issue. I agree that an alternator problem is unlikely based on the fact that the starter would engage and turn the engine over and then not and then later turn it over; and also, that the battery showed a charge afte...

1500 Dead on the Road

Riding in the NC Mountains my '93 Goldwing died going down the road. As I was coasting off the road I noticed the dash lights were off and the clock was flashing. When I initially attempted to restart the bike there was nothing. No clicking, nothing. I removed the side covers and seat in order to ge...

Re: Difficulty starting

Thanks for the feedback, I did check the fire and it seems to come and go. I haven't checked the fuel yet but I hope to get back on it soon. It has been a busy couple of weeks.

Difficulty starting

Hey Goldwing Techs, out of the blue my 1993 wing has started giving me fits starting. I went for a short ride last night and stopped and shut it off for a bit. When I tried to start it back up it wouldn't fire at all. I messed with the kill switch, kickstand, anything I could think of. When I tried ...

Re: Cornering Lights won't work

Charlie, I thought those must have been relays, even tried to test one, but the wiring schematic in my manual showed different colored wires, so I was unsure. Thanks for the information I will go forward with that.

Cornering Lights won't work

Neither of the cornering lights on my '93 GoldWing will not come on when I activate the turn signal. I have checked all connections, the sockets, and fuses. I have even checked to see if there is current (when the turn signals are activated), at the plug and socket, and there is not. There is nothin...

Re: GL1500 Auxiliary shifter stabilizer

I have read several articles concerning the shift brace issue on the 1500's. I understand that not everyone thinks they have the ability to make their own stabilizer, but it is really quite simple, and incredibly inexpensive. Buying everything necessary cost me less than $30. From what I have read s...

Re: Adding an Aux input to the GL1500 radio

At the risk of coming across as an absolute goober I think there is a much simpler way to accomplish the same result. They make a cassette adapter that plugs right in to an MP3 player portable CD player or pretty anything else. I use one with an MP3 player and it works great. The cassette tape lid w...

Re: Frustration - a mild rant

It is a pitiful world when we won't slow down long enough to help our fellow man, whether in an auto or on a bike. Cell phones are a great tool but a terrible friend. I wish the world would begin to realize these phones are ruining our society by separating us from personal interaction. Now we don't...

Re: Whining Noise

Yes, more or less. I used a 4.4 pound weight from a dumbbell and measured the flex of the belt in fractions 3/16ths to 1/4 of an inch. I wasn't as precise as you were, could be that was the difference. I will repeat the process and see if it helps.

Re: Whining Noise

I set it by measuring free (up and down) travel of the belt in the middle of the run opposite of the tensioner.

Whining Noise

I am puzzled. I replaced the Timing Belts on my 1500 with Napa brand belts. It immediately began making a whining kind of noise. I decided that it might be the tensioner pulleys, so I replaced those and adjusted the tension to the specs in the manual. Still I have this whining noise. Could it be the...
