Re: Voltage Regulator
It's for the main, under the false tank. I figured I would just change it to see if this fixes my starting problem. Pretty sure I may have damaged it when I tried to jump it off my running Jeep.

Frustrated with my old wing. Hasn't been running now for almost a year. I have had other issues which have consumed most of my time but thought I should try again and get this bike fixed. I think i may have original fried my voltage regulator, i believe when my battery was half dead last year that i...

Re: No Electrical Power
I did not put battery tender on it overnight and think I may have got a defective battery from Auto Zone. Reading before turning on power was 9.4, power on and switch engaged 8.0 Turned off power 8.8 Switch on 7.5 and appears to keep dropping voltage No click at all like I had gotten with fresh batt...

Re: Starter Help!
Not to hijack your thread but I'm having problem starting as well. Not sure if my battery that I bought in June is defective (bought from Auto Zone), or maybe I fried something again  I don't believe my starter is an issue, I was able to crank starter with direct Charge from battery to termina...

Bike won't start
I have been having trouble getting my 83 to start, I think I may have just fried another relay after using my jeep battery to try and jump it as my battery quickly lost voltage after trying to start it. I should have checked the voltage to the starter before I tried to crank it but I thought my issu...

Re: For Sale 1983 GL1100I located in Virginia Beach
So to further troubleshoot my electrical issue I just jumped the starter off the battery and starter cranks, so either the relay or the wire from the relay going to starter is bad. So bike should definitely be running before next weekend. This is a nice bike to ride for her vintage age and I hate to...

For Sale 1983 GL1100I located in Virginia Beach
Selling $1500 OBO. 62K miles, was running good until recently. Having electrical issue with starter, replaced battery, think it is relay which I just ordered, only getting 2-4 volts at starter. Starter replaced 2 years ago (Taiwan), I pulled and cleaned starter, ran an external ground wire so I'm ho...

Re: No Electrical Power
So just finished removing and inspecting starter, I don't see any other issue other than its the starter I put in a year or two ago (Taiwan). Cleaned it and greased reassembled and installed. Still no joy, looks like I'm only getting 2-4 Volts when I engage the starter switch, relay just clicks. I a...

Re: No Electrical Power
I just attempted to unbolt the ground, put my engine support stand under and broke bolt loose but thinking it may have stripped out, not loosening or tightening now! Do you know if there is a helicoil insert at this location that may have just spun when trying to break loose? Any ways I'm going to t...

Re: No Electrical Power
So I have very weak power going to starter. The voltage light tester is very dim, and relays just clicks. Does not appear to be sending enough cranking amps to starter. Battery lights up fine, getting 10.56 volts. I realize this is not 12 but it is a new battery. I actually bought battery new in Jun...

Re: Front brake sticking
One other question. I don't believe I used synthetic the last time I rebuilt my calipers which was less than 4 years ago. I didn't rebuild this time with new seals because my only problem was the pads were soaked with fork oil so I just put on new pads. I know I pumped a lot of new brake fluid throu...

Re: Front brake sticking
Is there a problem with using Dot 3 vice Dot 4? I just rebuilt my forks which blew a seal and my pads were saturated. I replaced the pads the other night but used Dot 3 Synthetic brake fluid. I just Read the post here while waiting for my wife to recover from elective surgery and can't recall but th...

Re: Fork Seal Repacement
I know this is two months after last post but those crush washers sometimes get stuck/compressed in and may appear to somebody unfamiliar with them that there is not a washer. Took me about 15 minutes to dislodge one in my fork. Need to pick out gently without marring the fork. I used a pick tool bu...

A BiG thanks Wilcoy02! Although the piston is discontinued the boot and cir clip I have the part numbers now
51442-MC7-003 for boots
51445-MC7-003 for the cir clips
My brake pads arrived today so I'm going to see if I can get these parts quick so I can complete my fork overhaul!
