Re: where to buy a starter for my 82 GL100I

I bought one from emsglobaldirect on e-B... this summer. The first one broke a gear in the planetary. Sent them a note and they sent another out with prepaid return shipping for the defective unit. Great customer service and the second one worked fine.

Hard start when cold

I have an 82 GL1100. Once started it seems to work fine and pulls well at 3000 rpm. However a cold engine doesn't want to start. At times I've thought it might be hydrolocking since it seems to want to come to a dead stop while cranking. However, if I turn the ignition off and crank it spins freely....

Re: Un-Linking '83 GL1100I Brakes?

I was thinking about doing just the opposite (converting an 82 to Linked brakes). What got me started was I bought a set of calipers since my rear bleeder was stripped out. When I saw the new brackets were really different, I realized that these came from an 83 Aspencade and I have an 82 standard. S...

Re: Aftermarket timing belts?

I agree, I bought on price before I reaized this was a 0 clearance engine. Will change them out in a couple thousand miles or two years, whichever comes first. They should at least last that long...

Re: Self Cancelling Turn Signals

I was using the 83 standard and assuming that the "horn" button in the diagram is really the canceling solenoid. After tearing through the wiring harness I finally found my culprit (corroded connection) which was causing no power to the cancel unit. Cleaned it up and took the bike out tonight. Much ...

Re: Swapping Fairing and Bags

Sorry to Hijack the thread, but this seems appropriate as well... I know someone has to have put leather saddlebags on an GL1100. I like the Harley look but don't know if I need the Hondaline saddlebag stay to ensure bags don't get into the rear wheel. I see these stays on e-bay every so often, but ...

Re: Aftermarket timing belts?

Replaced mine with belts from SaberCycle. They fit fine and the tool which came with them made removal of the covers quite easy without removing anything else. When I remarked on e-bay that I hoped they were up to par, I got some unpleant feedback from someone at Saber. While their parts are typical...

Self Cancelling Turn Signals

Does anyone know how to troubleshoot these? I am new to this bike (82 standard) as I purchased it a month ago with lots of problems. The wiring harness had several wrong connections preventing the right turn signals and running lights from working. I assume this was due to the previuous owner trying...
