Re: GL1500I or GL1500A?

The eleventh digit in the VIN is the plant code, not the model line.

Re: Removing trailer hitch

The trailer hitch on my '89 is just bolted on. There are a couple of u bolts and it's also bolted to the frame in the area of the rear pegs.

Re: Volume on radio

Is the volume normal in thee headsets? If so, there is a fuse that powers the radio's amp. I can't recall exactly which one it is (IIRC #3) but it is in the fuse block on the left side of the bike. It's a little tough to get to but check them out.

Re: gl 1500 A

The 2 white plastic slides lock the radio shelter to the false tank tupperware. The knob in the cubby sounds like a fader. That is where my aftermarket fader is mounted on mine.

Re: stereo volume

The fuse is in the fuse box on the left side of the bike. I had a problem with the volume on mine. It was full volume on the left channel and you could hardly hear the right. I ended up having to take out the radio and clean the controls from inside. It's been fine ever since.

Re: stereo volume

The AVC cannot turn the volume lower than the volume control is set at. There are a number of things that can cause low volume. There is a fuse that powers the amp, IIRC it's #5. That will cause low speaker volume. Is the volume low in the headsets as well as the main speakers? If so try cleaning th...

Re: 1999 1500 SE Fuel gauge problem

I adjusted the float when the low fuel light came on. I set it so the needle was right on the red line. Now, a few miles after it hits the high side of the red line the light comes on. As it falls below the red line it is using up the reserve. I have taken it as low as needing 6 gallons to fill up. ...

Re: 1999 1500 SE Fuel gauge problem

Common on the 1500. You can carefully bend the float arm down, but that will keep it up at full longer. I did this to my 89. Even though my low fuel light works I just feel better knowing empty is accurate.

Re: 1990 GL1500 overheating

That's really strange. The radiators are paralell. If the right is full so should the left be. Has someone by-passed it? The fan switch will not close if there is no coolant around it.

Re: Can handle bars be raised or lowered

You can adjust them....somewhat. If you pop off the ignition cover you will see a rectangular cover over the center of the handle bars. Pop that off. There are 4 12mm bolts. loosen them a few turns and you will be able to rotate the bars. This will adjust the height, but it will also move them close...

Re: 97' 1500 SE, air compressor output

This forum is OUTSTANDING! I couldn't get my compressor to run on output either. The suspension works fine. I was trying to convince myself to tear it apart and find the problem. Tonight I came across this thread and said to myself, "no way!" I went out to the garage, turned the switch to "P" hit th...
