Re: Brand new - out of the box - 2017 GL1800
Check all the fluid levels ESPECIALLY THE FINAL DRIVE OIL. Goldwings are notorious for coming from the factory with low final drive oil and sometimes engine oil and coolant also.

Re: shelter cover removal
I am assuming that you know there is storage in there. There should be a keyhole on the right side of the fairing. Insert key and turn to the right to unlock this pocket.

Re: OEM CB
You're welcome. I got my CB back in 2009 and used it on my '08 until I purchased my present '13. If you buy an older CB made for pre 2012's you have to get an adapter to be able to connect the main data cord to your bike's outlet. I think you can get them from Sierra or other such places for about $...

Re: OEM CB
Looks like you have a 2012. The bottom of the trunk has a lid tht lifts up and there is a well that it fits into so it doesn't take up any of the trunk space. The 2012 / 2017 is plug and play except for the antenna.

Re: 1800 Alternator
I think failures are more common on pre '06 models as it was a less powerful model alternator. A dealer will tell you they have to pull the tank because the service manual says to do so. But you don't. I had to remove the alternator in my previous '08 but only because I broke a terminal connection o...

Re: Changing rear brake pads on 202 GL1800A
Red Ron, you might be on to something. I just replaced my pads and rotors all around a couple weeks ago, but normally I'd replace pads without removing the wheels. The front is nothing to remove to clean the calipers but the rear is at a bad angle and location to clean and compress the cylinders. O...

It always goes off either before I am done riding or it is off the next day when I turn the ignition on. From what I have read, some alarm systems cause the light to go on.

While there is no transmission fluid I assume you do know about the final drive oil. Since some are giving their favorite oil....mine is Mobil 1 10W40 full synthetic and non energy conserving. Get 5 qts at WallyWorld for about $25.

Check the classified section on other goldwing sites like gl1800riders.com. I got mine from there for $350. I also, have hooked up 2 antennas and they worked great without checking with swr meter.

Re: 1800 Speedometer Accuracy
Best I can remember my '08 was off by about 4%. On my '13 with a 60 series CT my after market GPS actually says I am going a little faster than what the speedo indicates. So maybe they did correct it on the '12's and later.

Re: Changing rear brake pads on 202 GL1800A
I would like to chime in with a question. I like to take the calipers apart and clean the pistons before I push them back into the caliper. I have always taken the rear wheel off to do this. With a car tire (60 series), I am wondering if I could avoid putting the bike on a jack and just take the wh...

Re: 2018 GL1800 minimal shock travel
Me and another guy looked at them today at Bike Week in Daytona. We got down on our knees and looked up into the front and we couldn't see a bumper like the one in the video. We could barely see one at the bottom of the spring but it appeared a lot smaller than what is on the video. I wonder if they...

I heard they were correct from '12 on. On my '13 I have a 60 series CT. My GPS says that I am going a little faster than the speedo.

Wow! Reinforces my decision to wait a couple of years. I never buy a new vehicle (or bike) the first year when radical changes are made.

Re: Bike starts only if in neutral?
I have had it happen several times on the 1800's I have owned. Couple of times after riding several hundred miles in the rain. What happens is the micro switches in the clutch lever get grime between the contacts. Spray them clean with silicon spray or something similar and should take care of it.

Re: Hauling an 1800 across country
You are about 40 miles south of me. I ride across Merritt Island (couple of miles from your backyard) quite often and stop and view the manatees. Maybe we can meet up for a ride after you get settled. There are about 3 different groups of Wing riders here. The Prowlers are extremely active this time...

Re: Hauling an 1800 across country
If you don't have a chock, run a strap over the left side of the top of the triple tree and to the front left corner of the trailer. Do the same over the right side of the triple tree. Also remove the side covers to access the frame. Run straps from the frame on each side of the bike. Also, I run 2 ...

Very easy to make it overflow when refilling after a change. Seems like it took a month for the smell to go away last time I changed.

Re: Front wheel no longer spins as freely.
If you can make the wheel rotate through 3 rotations or so it is probably ok. The brakes are supposed to make a little contact. If they seem to be grabbing it might be necessary to loosen the pinch nuts and axle bolt and make sure the wheel is aligned and follow the instructions in the manual to tig...

Re: TPMS Error
It's called Boyle's Law. PV=NRT. Been so long since I recalled it. Cold air is much denser. Pressure will decrease in the cold. When your tire warms from riding, the pressure comes back up as the air expands. This is completely normal. I live in the NE and experience what you speak of when I fail t...

Re: TPMS Error
My '13 has done this since day 1. Probably 3 to 4 times a year. I have found from reading posts on several other boards, that this is a common problem. Sometimes it will stay on till I turn the bike off. I have read that alarm systems can trigger it. Now I just ignore it and don't pay attention to i...

If it turns out to be serious there is a guy in FL that has fixed a ton of bikes with the "Ghost Shifting" problem. He is a lot cheaper than the dealer. His business can be found at justwings.com.
