Re: Pulse Jet Autocycle

Didn't the Fairey "Rotodyne" use tip jets, back in the 50's/60's, but I don't think it ever went into production. Noise from the tip jets being one of the problems Yes it did. In fact in was a complex machine as it also had two turbo-prop engines as well. The wing tip jets were ram jets, and were u...

Re: Pulse Jet Autocycle

you could buy plans from ads in Popular Mechanics to build your own pulse jets.
Noisy SOBs.
I am surprised no one has put a pulse jet in a Harley - it might reduce the noise.

Re: Pulse Jet Autocycle

If that thing has real pulse jets, it has to be louder than hell.
Been looking up stuff, Jim Bede never actually used pulse jets, although he did use conventional jet engines. I think "Pulse" was just a name.

Re: Pulse Jet Autocycle

My late mother remembered seeing a real pulse jet in 1944 in the shape of a V1 flying bomb. It landed in a field some 6 miles away from her home, thankfully doing little damage other than breaking windows. Interesting technology, pulse jets. Very simple but inefficienct, they were never developed as...

Re: Loch Ness monster?

Prior to spoiling my day by topping the Wing up with diesel This has always been a fear of mine, I have done it a couple of times the other way round in cars, though a bit of petrol in a diesel car doesn't usually stop it working. Of course it is nigh impossible to top up a petrol car with diesel a...

Re: Photo Tag ---Anyone want to play?

Ah, cell as in mobile phone. Now it makes sense. There is nothing like that in the UK, not that I have seen, what a good idea. Though mobile phones did give disused factory chimneys a new lease of life.

Well that has made everything splendidly clear. I know what a bell tower is, here is the view of my parish church taken from my front door. I doubt though this is what you mean.

Re: Advice for listing on Ebay

If you do use Ebay. 1 Take full advantage of the included photos you are allowed - 12 in the UK. Before taking pictures make sure the bike is very clean and really sparkes. Take photos from all angles, include any dings or scrapes. Try to use as neutral a background as you can, keep the bike the cen...

That list of Oklahoma laws doesn't mention filtering (lane splitting). I realise it is essentially about the machine's compliance rather than riding but it does list "riding two abreast".

Re: 20% Chance of Rain

any sign of rain in the forecast is not good enough for me to get the bike out for a ride.
And if we stayed at home in England if there was a chance of rain we would have very low mileage bikes. In terms of summer rain, it is really only thunderstorms which keep me off my bike.

Re: Photo Tag ---Anyone want to play?

I noticed all over the north western usa and Canada, I suppose it is down to the amount of use the railway gets. I live in a rural area, well away from London, even so, the the local line which runs through my village has a train in one direction or the other every 15 minutes or so, at least in the ...

Re: Photo Tag ---Anyone want to play?

a country rail road crossing that has no lights or gates, only a stop sign You won't find one of these in the UK. Even the loneliest, most rural crossing will have a gate. There are some rail crossings for pedestrians without a gate, but even crossings which are limited to farm traffic have gates. ...

Business opportunity. Square beer cans.

In the days of sail, the Royal Navy had square plates so they could be stowed more efficiently - hence the saying, "three square meals a day".
