Re: Carrying a firearm on a trip

You don't go into a store and pull out the waistband of your underwear, and say "Hey, everyone, look at my underwear!"
Ah, that's where I am going wrong. Anyone know a good lawyer I can use.

On a trip to Maine a few years ago, I rode 9 days, 7 of them in pouring rain.
Come to England. It very rarely rains here.

Re: My Final Ride

That gravel that washes down after a rain storm is awful stuff. It is bad enough when you encounter it in the day light - it always seems to be on bends too. Glad you came through this if not intact, at least in one piece. You have my prayers for a continued recovery.

Does it usually snow so far north? I briefly visited Cambelltown (many decades ago now) - it was very hot.

Re: Gear indicators

I really don't see the point of them on a five speed gearbox. There is an indicator for top - overdrive, which is where my 1500 spends most of its time. You surely don't need an indicator to tell that you are in 1st gear, which leaves only three to remember.

Re: GWRRA Members ???

How about the fact you join an organization where the members have no voice in the way its run. And the fact he shut down TRI to put the members into GWWRRA to bolster its sagging numbers. Its an overpriced business.
Sounds just like the European Union.

Consider moving to England. We have just had our four hot days and a thunder storm, that's our summer gone.

Re: rider down

None of that boot nonsense here. They would have taken your leg off below the knee. A few years ago you would have had a strip of leather to chew on while they did the cutting, things have improved now and you get a hi-tec piece of silicone to bite.

I hardly ever ride my wing, i'm much happier on the Mighty ST 1300 but I think there will be a stress issue with it also so I hope the XL 70 is finished by then :)

Re: End of a 108-year legacy

It is always sad when things like this happen. Motorcycle magazines in print are now becoming rare beasts. Perhaps what is worse, is when I have to go to the supermarket with her that must be obeyed, I can't slink off to the magazine aisle and read the motorcycle press - nothing much there anymore. ...

Re: From a Wing to a Burgman?

When I was having back, shoulder and leg problems (managed to get them all at the same time) I felt my motorcycle days were finished and I found myself a 650 Burgman. It was pre-owned but only had 49 miles on the clock when I bought it, so I had to run it in as it was practically a new machine. Firs...

Re: TT time again!

Ice cream parlors don't serve sprinkles, because if they fall on the floor, customers might slip and fall. One locality in the UK banned the use of welcome mats because they are a "fire risk." Sandboxes in playgrounds are gone, because they might have broken glass in them. University graduates are ...

Re: TT time again!

I n my opinion, the UK's absolute religious OBSESSION with "health and safety" I have to agree with you but it is not governmental interference which is behind this (there is a bit admittadly) but the more insidious threat of litigation, a phenomenon imported from the US a few decades ago and now ap...

Well I tested a local member of the species with an Ishihara plate which any non-colour blind individual could see had a numeral seven on it, and the cow just gave me a baleful stare and wandered off. How much more science do you need?

And as far as cats go.... you are sick. I hope you choke on the next one you eat then you can become a sick-tistic! what's with the 'Challenger' bit in your name?
Brett Challenger is the hero of my book which I never actually got round to writing. He was a sort of mix of Simon Templar, Biggles and Clive of India.

Shooting pigeons has been banned in the UK, thanks to the odious Chris Packham. And personally, I would like to see cats banned - ghastly creatures.

Well you are entitled to your opinion and I respect it, it is clear you have strong feelings regarding this matter. I am also sympathetic if you have been personally touched by a motor sport tragedy. However, banning things is a slippery slope to take. There have been calls to ban many sports over t...
