Re: No Headlight, running lights

I had the same problem. I built the contacts up with a little drop of solder. Then sanded it down until it gave me positive stops at high and low beam. I only switch to low beam at night and I don't ride much at night, but I did this last summer and have had no problem out of it. In fact, I had tota...

Re: Questions regarding "older" men and Goldwings

I turned 63 in June. I bought my 83 Interstate 5 years ago. It had been 20 years since my last bike. Before that I had a 750 honda and a 350 before that. This one IS heavy. Not only that, but I am 5 ft 7 inches tall, and I am barely on the balls of my feet at a full stop. I dropped the bike twice at...

Re: bubbles in oil check window

That is exactly my next move. I am toying with using a sheet of gasket material and make my own at half the price. Or should I bite the bullet and just buy a new one?

Re: bubbles in oil check window

It IS a little overfilled. By the time I get the oil leak from the clutch cover taken care of, (taking it off repeatedly to try to make the current new gasket work) I will probably have lost enough oil to bring it down where it should be. I am at the point of replacing the gasket again. The new one ...

bubbles in oil check window

I have been trying to take care of a small oil leak at the clutch cover on my 83 Interstate. After a 20 + mile ride, I get down to see if I have solved the problem. While down there I check the oil level in the window and notice what looks like fairly big air bubbles at the top. They go away after I...

Re: Add switch for fan on 1100? marginal cooling

While on the topic... there are times in the summer when I get home from a ride (or to my destination), hit the kill switch and the fan is still going. Should I leave the key on until the fan shuts off or is it o.k. to just turn the ignition off and go on my way?

right handlebar control

I desperately need a right handlebar control for my 83 interstate. When I put new push / pull cables on, part of it fell apart and if I get it clamped down tight enough to stay put, the throttle doesn't spring back. E bay only has one but it does not look like the right part to me. What years will f...

sea foam as maintenance

I just read the post on the possible stuck starter sprag and how running sea foam in the oil could loosen it. I was just wondering if it is a good idea to run sea foam in the oil as part of a maintenance procedure on the first run of the riding season?

Re: changing out final drive

Thanx for the vote of confidence on saying its an easy job. I looked all over last summer for the leak. Not the cap and not where the drive goes in. I am going to trust the seller as to the miles on this drive. I definitely intend to put a new o ring on it before the install. I am retiring from 30 y...

Re: changing out final drive

I just got my "new" drive this afternoon. It looks to be in great shape. The o ring on it is almost completely gone. The drive I have on the bike right now is leaking, or the oil is pooling, directly in the middle of the bottom of the housing. Your opinion... Is changing out the drive any worse of a...

Re: changing out final drive

It is hard to tell from the drawing, but is it the o ring that is visible on picture 41 of admin's "how to change back tire"... on the far left just past the teeth?

Re: changing out final drive

I'll wait until I need a new back tire. It wasn't a big gamble for $50, plus the drive has a third of the miles mine has. I will replace that o ring on my "new" drive and life should be really good.

changing out final drive

I need to change out my final drive on my 83 interstate. The only 'how to' post I see is changing the back tire. Can I just take the drive off without taking the axle off?

Will do. I just purchased the drive for $48, part and shipping. What a deal if it really is from a bike with 16,000 miles on it. Now I just have to get it on the bike.

final drive gear

My final gear assembly on my 83 interstate is leaking a little gear oil. It doesn't drip enough to leave a drop on the ground but I figure it is only a matter of time before it gets a lot worse. I found a 1982 aspencade drive on ebay with only 16000 miles on it, (supposedly). Will that fit mine?

It sounds like I should just leave the tabs on. I thought maybe the screws could be used when synching the carbs.

plastic flags on carbs

I read a post about using a soldering iron to get those plastic flag looking things off the adjustment screws on the bottom of the carbs. I don't remember under what post it was and what the screws adjusted. Anybody?

40 degrees and dropping. Wind around 20 mph. It is going to be 27 tomorrow. But this is the thing about my part of Kentucky; it was in the 50's a few days ago. And it is going to be 18 degrees on Wed. and back to 40 next week. It's a bit of a tease on those 50 degree days as the old wing sits under ...

throttle cable

I was having issues with my throttle and decided to take the grip off to get to the cables and oil them. I put some light oil down the cable sheath. When I pulled on the cable on the side closest to me to help the oil seep down, it came out in my hand. The cable has rusted completely through about 6...

Thanx for the responses. I probably will stay with my 1100, because I would have to get rid of it: a. because I can't afford to buy even the cheapest Valk close by ($5500) and b. I couldn't afford insurance on two machines. (And I'm not even including what the missus might think about two of them in...

I'm not sure this is the right place for this post..... My wife just recently showed an interest in riding on the back and we have taken a few hour long trips through horse farm country here in Lexington, KY. My 83 Interstate does O.K. but it feels like I am pushing her a bit. More down shifting tha...

A part number for the seals would be great. It is an 83 Interstate.
